Best system for GP2

Does anyone has any idea on what is the better system for running GP2
smoothly, by that I mean at a higher frame rates.

I read from one of the computer magazine saying that a Pentium-166 can
run at 26 fps with full graphics options. It also said that running with
an P-133 is probably the next best answers for a good game of GP2 (with
18-20 fps, but reduced graphics)

How about processors like AMD PR133 or Cyrix P150/166+ ? Are there
comparable to P-166 ? Will there be capable of running GP2 at higher
frame rates than the pentium lines?

I'm currently running my GP2 with a 'pathetic" 486/2-66 with basically
no graphics at all and would appreciate some advices before upgrading
soon (real soon I hope).

I have a Micron P200 with 32 megs of ram and I can't run with full
graphics in svga.  If I'm doing something wrong please tell me.

I am running a Pentium 200mmx with 64mb RAM, Mystique card.  It will run
with everything but the clouds on and i turn in 26+ frame rate.  It sure
beats my 133 I was running before.  The car is actually drivable now.

Its the same ole' story my man. How to get GP2 to run fliud. It wont
happen for some time.
Maybe when the pent 300 comes out you might be close, but by then there
will be a hell ova lot better Formula1
sims that actually HAVE multi-player option, sound, wet weather, decent
utilities, etc....
As for a Micron p200, thats a hellava system. To bad you spend that type
of cashola to only find
out that you have to deal with incomplete simulations from a company as
large as Microprose! If you
did anything wrong it was buying GP2 and supporting Geoff Crammond's
bank account! I guess alot of
us were wrong.

Do you get the 26 fps with no clouds on in SVGA mode or in VGA mode?

>MMX?? GP2 is not coded for it...

Doesn't matter, the MMX chip is faster than the "classic" P200 so you
can still expect an improvement.

The P200-MMX is pretty much equivalent to the Pro-233, especially if
you whack it up to 75Mhz bus speed, or even 83Mhz if your peripherals
can take it.

Cheers!

i've got a standard P200 and run GP2 in VGA (not S :) to get a good
framerate...  and I don't know if 17 is good... got everything turned
on, the system says I can do 25 frames but I need to put it on 17 to
keep my processor use under 100% all the time... I just don't like
playing in slow motion... :)

Consider the new AMD K6 processor coming out in April or May - that one
will be SUPERfast on existing Pentium (socket 7/dual voltage)
mainboards...

I run a Pentium Pro 200 with 64Mb RAM and a Matrox Millenium card.
Guess what? I skip sky detail and the smoke that surrounds my car when
I make a big error? 300%+ CPU usage. Oh dear. Still, I can run
everything else on which is rather nice.

Julian, I picked up 3 frames with the MMX over a regular 200. The
plus is I didn't have verges and road textures turned on with P5 200. So
it
may be closer to 5 frames but can't compare now because it is gone.
Systems
were identically configured though. The 200-MMX is much smoother.
With it over clocked to 225 I can get 23.6 frames with all detail except
sky
turned on and it gives me an occupancy of 90 to 100 at Hockingheim once
you get through first corner. I'm using a S3 Trio card and the tests I
have
run so far indicated it is being overwhelmed. I have a 128 bit card on
order.
        Hope this helps.
