And as for an Arcade mode in GPL, I certainly hope this will never
happen. Does anybody ever use the Arcade mode in N2, for example?
GPL just wasn't designed for arcade racers, or those people who don't
want to spend dedicated hours racing, spinning, and enjoying the most
spectacular racing sim around.

GPL indeed was designed for the die-hard sim ***, but an arcade
mode WOULD attract more customers that wouldn't want to invest all
that time just to race with the novice mode AI guys.
Besides, you can always turn it off, and I'm sure a lot of people
sometimes want to 'jump in and race'. A fun thing about Nascar has
always been, for example, driving around in the wrong direction, or
just causing mayhem. :) No point in doing that if you must train for a
couple of days to even keep up with the tailing cars in a novice race.
All this just to improve the success of GPL for a wider public. The
.ini file juggling isn't there for nothing.

Doesn't the AI patch already do that? Then again, I suppose that
people would like to have that sort of option out of the box, instead
of having to download it from the web. And what about the folks who
don't have access to the internet. :-(
Griffin, the Slayer
Nope because you still have to be able to stay on the track and even w/o
the AI it takes some work to be able to do consistant laps. So yes, an
arcadish mode or at least relaxed physics (say, like F2 and F3) option for
the F1 cars that was configurable through the GPL interface might have
helped sales to some extent.

There's an arcade mode?!? :-)

No, there isn't.
We were debating whether or not GPL would have sold better if there
_had_ been an arcade (simple) mode included in the retail version.
Griffin, the Slayer
I think it would have sold better if it even had a GPal-like interface
for setting all the INI file options.
Joe
Well, I was JOKING about the arcade mode in N2... <g>
