Question ??? -- Obsidian2 X-24 24mb SLI Voodoo 2 Video Accelerator ???

by pa.. » Sat, 01 Jan 2000 04:00:00

A Question for the group ...

Does anybody have any experience with the Obsidian2 X-24 Video
Accelerator cards ???

They are becoming quite inexpensive (I have found them for as little
as $ 100.00 brand new), and they would seem to be the perfect solution
to the Glide games using other video cards, as they are a SLI set-up
with a pass through.

They seem to essentially be two Voodoo 2 12mb accelerators mounted on
one card in SLI, and since Obsidian is a subsidiary of 3Dfx, support
shouldn't be a problem.

Would an ideal video set-up perhaps be one of the new GeForce based
DDR AGP cards passed through one of these 24mb Voodoo 2 based PCI
Obsidians ???

Best of both worlds, perhaps ???

Thanks for any responses.

yeah i've got one.

yep.

i need to get it since i'd run out of pci slots.  i swapped my two
voodoo2 cards out and put this in so i could install my 10/100 ether
card.  (cheaper than buying a new motherboard and case.)

i like the performance of the card; typical sli performance.  however,
i don't like what it does in pass-through "mode"; i.e. when not
running a game, but regular 2d apps.  i get bad ghosting.  when i
first installed it, i didn't notice.  but after a while, i thought my
eyes were going bad.  turned out that when i plugged the monitor
directly into my 2d card, the ghosting disappeared.  i returned the
card to obsidian and recently got the new one.  same ghosting problem.
must be inherent in the device. (??)  i haven't decided what to do.
