N4 Boot Problem

OK, my experience:
Loaded N4 last night, let it install DX8.  Click on "run" to start N4, get
hourglass for 20 or 30 seconds while CD was spinning then nothing.
Installed VIA 4 in 1 drivers per earlier post, no help.  Loaded latest V3
drivers, no help.  Deleted and reinstalled game, no help. (demo ran/runs

850, V3 2000 oc'd to 3000 specs, but my CD ROM is a 5 year old Toshiba on my
C drive.  This seems to point to the CD ROM as the problem, but I don't have
one of the newer DVD drives.  Must be the copyright issue?

Solution for me was the no cd exec. (link in earlier port)

i had a similiar issue after installing. i used opengl in the video
configurator, the game would load & then sit there w/ a complete balck
screen. once i clicked a mouse button, the main n4 page would display. when
i uses d3d there are no issues. i have since loaded dx8a & the new via 4.28a
drivers. will try opengl again & run benchmarks

Try letting the hour glass stay for a while longer. I have a AMD 1 gig,
256MB, ATA100 UDMA HDD and it still takes a good 30 seconds for the game
to load.. But, I'm running it in a Pioneer 105s DVD player, and it
speeds up and slows down quite a few times before the game finally
loads.. (DX8.0, Voodoo3000, D3D)

The hour glass goes away (back to curser) and CD drive activity stops.
