Unable to buy GP3.... aarrgghhh!

by Jon Becke » Fri, 28 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Regardless of the early (somewhat biased) comments being made about
GP3, I'm buying it because I don't have a decent F1 game at the
moment.

I went into town - Witney, Oxfordshire - from work this lunchtime
(thursday 27th), and visited various shops in the hope of maybe
picking a copy of GP3 up...

1st Stop - Dixons. Look on display - it's not there. Walk up to
counter - "do you have the computer game 'Grand Prix 3' in stock yet?"
- "I believe we have about ten or twenty of them out the back". "Can
you sell me one?".... woman manager leans over counter, grinning, and
whispers - "It's more than our life's worth." "Thankyou..." and I walk
out.

2nd Stop - W H Smiths. Look on display - nothing. Walk up to counter -
"have you got the computer game 'Grand Prix 3' in stock?" - "yes sir".
"Can I buy a copy?" - "No sir", (grinning), "it's not released until
tomorrow at 9am - you can reserve a copy though". "Nah - it's okay,
Thankyou..." and I walk out.

3rd Stop - Woolworths. Look on display - nothing. Walk up to counter -
"have you got the computer game 'Grand Prix 3' in stock?" -
"uuuuhhh.... Michelle - have we got Grand Prix 3 in ?" - "Not until
tomorrow - you can reserve one though." - "No thanks - thanks for your
help though..." and I walk out, and trudge back to work.

Why do I live somewhere where the staff are so ***y correct and
proper?  aaaarrgghh!!!

Talked to my local gameshop yesterday. "Will you have GP3 on friday
?". Answer : "The national distibutor MAY send it out tomorrow, so
saturday if you are lucky, expect it somewhere between monday and
friday". "But it is released tomorrow!" (note: i know the guy very
well, so proper language is not necessary) "Well, tough luck"

AAAARRRGGG!!!

Hi Jon!

I had the same experience here today. They told me it would cost them 250000
(!) Deutschmarks if they were cought selling GP3 today...  Of course this is
PER COPY!  :-(

I would almost say: if Hasbro doesn't want our money today, why should we
want GP3 tomorrow? I wouldn't buy it after this disappointment (having the
box in my hands but weren't allowed to buy it) but I am an F1 ***... I'm
sure I will buy it tomorrow.

Greetings,

Markus

If they're getting it from the same place as I do, you're out of luck, I
phoned them 3 times today, and at 4 o'clock I was told that the Swedish
distributor who holds the rights for both Norway and Sweden hadn't
shipped them yet

Monday at the earliest I'm afraid, but more likely Tuesday before
they're in the shops.....

Tsk tsk tsk, shows what happens when you let Swedes handle it :-)

Beers and cheers

I'm going to say this only once in this newsgroup...

I am a professional software developer. People who copy software,
music and so forth are biting the hand that feeds them.

I won't go into the semantics of it, but if it carries on as it is,
you would be looking at eventual government control of the internet,
and client side software dying out entirely.

It will be your own fault too.

End of lecture.

Sorry about this posting to all those people who own their own copy of
their operating system, and of the software they have installed. This
posting isn't directed towards you - please ignore it.

So will I. Tomorrow afternoon is going to seem awfully long...

I have a date on Saturday too - half my head tells me I really do need
to still have some semblance of a real life, and the other half says
"sod it - tell her you've got a headache and play GP3 - you know it
makes sense"....

I suppose this would lead on to the inevitable "10 reasons why GP3 is
better than a woman"  :-)  If somebody can think some up....

Jonathan Beckett

p.s. if anybody thinks I'm going to play a computer game instead of
going out on a date with somebody rather special, they need their head
examining.

I don't understand this.  What's the difference if everyone sells a day early?

-snip-

I agree with you. However, the only reason the government would
attempt to "choke" the internet is for one reason only; "cold, hard,
cash".
