RASCAR: we ain't dead yet...

by BowtNetterToD » Tue, 26 Aug 2003 18:42:57

Jan, thanks for the offer, but i think i will pass. I have read John's
"post-race analysis" for rascar in the past and i personaly found them to be
very unfair and loaded with provocative language, your "post-race analysis"
i found to be very fair and presented in a very civil manner. As far as i
can see the only reason this "service" became John's responsability was
because John decided your reviews were being posted too late and decided to
post them himself, i dont agree with John on this and would rather that you
would continue to deal with any post-race analysis in your own time. It
seems to me that most of the rules and recent changes deal only with John's
pet hates and do nothing to improve the quality of the racing or the
atmosphere, penaltys for chatting during yellows and after the race are just
the start of more draconian rules i fear. We all know John and his
"abrasive" style and i have learnt to deal with him by turning a deaf ear
towards him, in his current position i cant simply ignore him. If the choice
is John's way "or the highway" i will choose the highway.

Cheers Ginger

RASCAR: we ain't dead yet...

From the looks of it, Mitch has taken control.  I think that if you
want RASCAR to continue, you should give Mitch the same chance to
succeed that you gave me.  I personally think everyone that was
already in RASCAR should be grandfathered in as capable drivers, but
that's Mitch's call. If you don't want to race under whatever rules
Mitch puts up, don't complain, and don't ***/moan about it - just
quit, and look for a league/group that does have rules you can live
with (it's always been just that simple).

Mitch, whether or not the website stays as the RASCAR website or is
taken back by Ed for his BGN thing is between you and Ed, and you'll
have to get the password to the ftp server from him.  I'm not trying
to be difficult - I deleted the email that he sent me (with the
password) long ago, and my ftp program shows asterisks for it.  But
whatever happens, it shouldn't happen until after Friday since that's
how long I told the guys they would have to suck replays an car
files.

Lastly, I appreciate the vote of confidence that everyone's shown in
this thread. I'd like to respond to Ginger's remarks, but I really
don't think it would do any good.  It's really too bad that what
*was* RASCAR was destroyed by just a few people.

Think you might want to check the forum untill the site is transferred to

Thanks for the support.

However, Mitch appears to want to have a crack at it and I don't want to get
into a situation where we have two competing RASCARs. I haven't heard back
from John either.

So I suggest we put the "buy our way out of trouble"-option on the
back-burner and support what Mitch is trying to do.

I agree. This has always been about the continuation of RASCAR. As long as
Mitch didn't provide an alternative there was no way to step aside. You
can't run a league to someone else's vision

Indeed, he who does the work gets to call the shots.

Don't worry, if I'm allowed in I'll be as critical of him as I was critical
of you.

The trouble with other NASCAR leagues is most, and the best ones invariably,
run at a distinctly Euro-unfriendly hours. Not their fault, obviously, and I
can see how nighttime US is very convenient for people living there, but I
find it very annoying nonetheless.

I don't see how replying to Ginger could hurt either. He's not going to try
and argue you into the ground.

I wouldn't say RASCAR was destroyed. I am a little worried about the long
run, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

If you speak at least _some German, have a look at

http://forum.virtualracing.org/index.php?sid=/

They've got oval and RC leagues. They're well organized, and at least on the
RCs, the racing is very realistic. Despite Damage being on Realistic,
usually most of the drivers finish... :-)

Andy Wilke drives there, and me as well (only RCs). We finish in the top
ten, in most races <g>

I can read German fine; can't find when those are run, though.

BTW: is there any reason why I should voluntarily subject myself to getting
distanced by you and Andy at a rate of 4 seconds per lap? <g>

Jan, at least in the RC branch they've got a faster and a slower grid. Dunno
about the ovals, but would assume it's similar. I know they have a Rookie
thing going there (no offense meant).

The RC league runs at irregular intervals, never more often than every
fortnight, but often less frequently, Friday evenings at 20:00 CET. Again,
dunno about the Ovals, you'd have to go to the main page
(www.virtualracing.org), and then click on the VR-Nascar button on top, seek
the GNL section on the left, and then the Termin-Kalender. Don't be confused
by the many entries, they seem to list their official Trainings as well.
Well, now that I've looked it up anyway <g> this is for the Ovals
www.virtualracing.org/nascar/modules.php?op=modload&name=Kalender&fil...

and this is for the RC (called GRRL)
