BEATBILL Update - Grandy Switches from Chevy to Ford and stomps to a 212.220 Lap

Drivers:

Couple of updates here.  Brian Motisko updated me that when Bill set the
record he could do
that with 3 gallons of gas.  We are at 22 gallons.   Good Points
Brian!!!  Just when everyone
seemed stuck on 211 laps.  Ole Mike Grandy switched from his trusty
CHEVY to a one
day ride in a FORD and busted the 1st 212.220 lap at dega in the
BEATBILL effort.!!!!

I am sure we havent heard the last of BUTTS yet.  And where are all the

BEATBILL Update - Grandy Switches from Chevy to Ford and stomps to a 212.220 Lap

by Robert Platt » Thu, 18 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Maybe,I will take a crack at it,I tried to beat it the other day in regulsr
N2 without fastlap or beatbill and took two trys at it.My first attempt was
a 208 and the second was a 210.Heres a couple tricks I found in those two
attempts, wich you might or might not already know.First it's pretty easy to
stay low in 1 2,but alot harder to kep the car low in 3 4 there is one key
you either have to back out a little for 3 or another trick which is the
second trick I found. This trick might scare alot of people because it
contents the 4th gear ratio. My first attempt I tried with a 3.2 fourth and
the car pushed up real high in 3 4 .So I bumped up the 4th gear to a 3.4!!
yes a 3.4,it tachs very high and about blows up but it holds together. But
what I found intrigued me I was able to hit the same top end sppeds on the
straightaways but when I went into the turns the car stayed lower because it
helped slow the car down more to hold the inside line.In return I got faster
exiting speeds and tyhe most important thing I was able to shorten the track
by running low, which everyone knows shorter way arund is the fastest way
around.I am not finished experimenting because this test was done with my 70
degree setup for having the plate on.The next thing I am going to experiment
with is tire pressures and shocks if I find anything interesting I will post
it.

Good Luck to all

Robert "GT86" Platts

P.S.This is for Jim Butts I must say that is a great fastlap time for dega
again,I was second to you in version 1.2 of fastlap and from what I am able
to do I am still second maybe third thats one reason why I haven't sent it
in.I want the pole : )
I haven't been able to do it as of yet but I will keep trying.

Guess you wouldn't want to help me out a little and share you secert with me
would ya :) Again great time.I also would like to praise one of the my
newest teammates and that is Jure great times man real great glad to have ya
aboard.
