I need help with GP4 video problem

by Grant » Wed, 01 Oct 2003 18:39:38

I have just upgraded my M/B and CPU and can't get GP4 to run.

When I click on the GP4 icon the screen goes black but I get the intro
music loading but sort of stop starting as well as cars passing by

I have upgraded my nvidia drivers and removed nero that I had on my PC
but still no luck

What could be causing it as it worked perfectly on my old M/B

Asus A7V8X ,Athalon 2000xp Cpu 512 ddr ram Gigayte gf2 400 agp
Winxp

Could it be maybe because these m/b use 8x AGP ?

I have posted on alpha f1 forum but have had no success from the help
I was given

Should I try Infogames?

I doubt it is an AGP 8X issue since, in all likelihood, that the AGP clock
is set to AUTO in your CMOS/BIOS setup. If you have forced it to 8X I would
certinaly set it to auto as I don't think cards as old as the GF2's support
more than 2X or 4X.

Actually, that old video card is your main bottleneck. I have an A7V8X and
that is a fairly 'modern' board. It works great with a GF FX 5600 Ultra and
Win XP Pro with the AGP clock set to auto. If you have set yours to 8X,
change it back. Find out what the GF2's could run at in their day and either
set it to that (likely 1X, 2X, or 4X tops) or set it to AUTO. If this
doesn't fix it, I don't know what to tell you. The Nvidia chipset on there
is the same folks that made the Geforce line of cards in the first place and
should work fine otherwise.

Are you crazy..???

What the chuff...

You upgraded from a perfectly good and fast motherboard A7V8X with XP2000+
which will run  alot faster with correct cooling, but thats by the
by........to whatever, when you have a GF2 MX400 graphic card which is
crying out to be upgraded.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are mad...no other words for it.

If you had kept your 'old' (not old at all) motherboard and cpu and added a
mid range g card like a GF4 ti 4200 golden sample or a 9600 Pro you would be
enjoying VASTLY better performance by now.

Amazing..

I know this was aimed at the original poster and not me, but that's pretty
much what I implied. The video card is woefully out of date by today's
standards. And what is hot today, will be old after Christmas. It is a
viscous cycle, aka Moore's Law.
