Well, very stupid off them to let it out! Cats should be kept in all the
time. Still, while we have magpies (native species BTW) to blame for the
decline in bird numbers, we can just ignore the affect cats have on
the small mammal population!

People are just ***ing stupid when it comes to conservation, and don't
they just love it when their little kitty brings them home a half dead vole!

Well, they said Spooky was "run done and killed". I don't know about
you, but that sounds pretty suspicious to me. I'm thinking maybe the
voles were in on it.

May be they were driving a Volvo? :)

really off-topic, but i live in the town, and i hate cat-owners around here.
They let their cats run around without any security.. when you drive to
work, you have to step on your brakes, cause a cat is running out on the
road.
Even if Cats are considered as a "smart" animal (dont know why), they look
at your car, and still run out on the road..

stupid cat-owners.. pretending to care about animals, and then let them out
on the streets so they can both get killed, and create a big accident with
ppl involved..

Being a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service we have to see all
these training films about safety every year and one of them is about kids
and cars.  I suspect the part about kid awareness will transfer to cats or
other animals.
When a child(or a cat) see's a dog running directly at them, there are
many many VISUAL clues that the dog is moving towards them.  I guess pets,
like young children, don't have very good depth perception.  But when a dog
runs, his ears flop, his coat wiggles his tail bounces and his feet get
picked up in a non-rythmic fashion. So it is relatively easy to see a
running animal and pick up that it is moving at you.
But a car at city speeds doesn't bounce, it doesn't have a wiggly coat
or a waggly tail.  The pretty much looks like it is standing still,
especially when viewed from directly ahead. No tongue*** out, and no
dog dribble dribbling out the car's mouth.
So kids, and supposedly smart animals may have a more difficult time
discerning that a car is heading directly at them.
Either that or they are just too busy using their cell phones...

Maybe it's time for a law to have cars equipped with dog-like ears, tongues and
tails? ;-)

Yes, I am also quite sad about that (the West's cat, not Jason's <g>).

Isn't it ironic that we hear the first about RL in 6 months, and the most
talked about part of the update is the fate of the cat?

Oh, and either (A) they've developed a new technique of doing real time
area-sourced lighting, (B) that in-game shot is running at 0.2FPS, or (C)
that 'in-game' shot is a bit 3DSMAX.

I'd have to say there is no way those are ingame shots but merely 3DS
renders.  Name one game that has even half that detail in game.  There is no
way they managed to create a sim engine that is leaps and bound ahead of
every other game on earth.  6 months and nothing to show really but renders.

I *want* them to be real... but they do seem far, *far* too good to be
true, I agree.

I am quite happy to be proved wrong :-)

Well just try running some of the high end demos that the video card makers
put out or some of the 3DMark tests.  Notice how when they hit high detail
action scenes that they drop to a crawl and these are no where near as
complex as the West models.  Through in the fact you then need to do real
time AI, scene rendering, chassis modelling, etc and I think the answer is
obvious.  Heck try running NR2003 with maxed out settings and you will see
how far off the West's dream is.  Maybe 5 years from now this will be
possible but not for a while.

You're right. If they could squeeze moving images that impressive out
of modern hardware, they'd be doing it to show off. I guess stuff like
the Dawn demo is as good as it gets.... which is pretty good, but
nowhere near the images on west-racing.com

'Scuse me, I just have to go beat my optimistic streak back into its

Sounds like you've got some really weird cats there.  In the UK cats are
very popular, and nearly every street where I live probably has a half
dozen or so free roaming cats in it, and yet I've never had a problem
with cats in the road playing chicken with my car.  Now pigeons!!!
That's a different story.  :)
