Well this is great news for all 3d accelerater owners. It's been anounced that
3DFX is doing a Nascar 2 port by an in-house official.

For us verite owners as well this is good. I'm sure Rendition won't sit still
with this version now and a faster anti-alaised version should be
forthcomming.

Im eagerly awaiting the 3dfx version as well.

This is great news!!!! But where did you read it? I bought a 3DFX card
because I knew it was the best on the market. I was so disappointed to see
Sierra not supporting anything but their own card...I was considering maybe
purchasing a verite card but I was not sure which one offered equal or
better windows performance as my Stealth 64 4MB VRAM. Now that a 3dfx
version of forthcoming maybe I can just wait for it....By the way, was
there any sort of release schedule....like maybe a couple of months or
summer time perhaps?....

I haven't bought a 3D card because I didn't think the improvement is worth
it.
ICR2 & N2 look pretty good on my P5-133 at max SVGA detail. In fact from
what I have read N2 seems like a disapointment, compared to ICR2. I think
those "comparision" pictures of before & after 3D that are in all the adds,
are
misleading. I do not think ICR2 looks that bad without 3D. You do not get
cloud cover, but that is not really a 3D thing anyway...

Jeez!  Glad I couldn't afford a Verite card yet... may be a good thing I
waited.  Competition.  That's what we all love.  Drive them prices down
and that quality up!  YeeHaa!

Does this mean my Maxtrox 3D card will NOW work with the 3D effects for
Nascar 2? Thanks.

Yes, good news, but, I prefer ICR2 and would like to see a 3DFX port of
that too. They both use the same graphics engine so see no reason why
they can't do both at the same time.

No it won't. Unless Sierra did a D3D version or Matrox port.

No.  Your Mystique uses a Matrox chipset, not the Rendition or 3dfx
chipset that N2 is/will be available for.

No because it's still neither a Rendition nor a 3Dfx card.

It's not just the visual enhancement.  It's not even *mainly* the visual
enhancement, although eye candy is always nice if it's free.  It's the
glassy-smooth framerates *with* eye candy.  Screen-shots simply can't
communicate the difference.  A true 3D game using un***erated 3D objects
running fullscreen with no visible screen refresh must be experienced
before it can be rationally compared with a 3D game running on a 2D card.

That's why so many people are drooling at the prospect of getting
top-notch racing and flight simulators with Voodoo or Rendition
enhancement.  Play Tomb Raider or Descent this way, and it's almost
impossible to go back.

Possible physically, but you are in error...My system will go back
to 2D when you can pry ANY 3D game from my cold-dead fingers!!<g>
