Is Nascar2 locked into only supporting the verite chipset (and Sierra for
that matter) or will it be patched to support new cards like Interplays
Descent2 and the 3dfx chip?

That's not entirely true. id just released the OpenGL port of Quake.
While not specifically a 3Dfx port, the Voodoo cards are the only
consumer level card capable of running it (they even out perform many
high-end workstation class cards). Sierra also has made a Voodoo game,
***Gladiators. It comes with both a Direct3D version (that's what
the Verite cards run) as well as the Voodoo-native Glide version.

Despite their venture into the graphics card arena, Sierra is not
Rendition only. They have a few Direct3D titles, and at least one 3Dfx
title (***Gladiators comes with a Voodoo Native Glide version). Ken
Williams has stated that they will continue to support both of the
leading chips (Rendition and 3Dfx).

Just check out the 3Dfx web page in the games section :-
http://www.3dfx.com/game_dev/titles.html
The two 3Dfx cards are the Diamond Monster3D and the Orchid
Righteous3D. Both cards are good but the Orchid Righteous3D is
faster overall with better quality (but more expensive).
Both of these cards work with your existing 2D card. When it
detects the 3D stuff it switches the 2D card and takes over.
At the moment I've got a 4Mb Matrox Millenium and the Orchid
Righteous3D. Both work together beautifully - mega fast 2D and
mega fast 3D graphics!!!!! (now you can see that I'm a bit biased
but I'm really pleased with my combo!!)
Do some research and look around at the reviews in computer mags.
The Matrox Mystic is a good all round 2D/3D performer and very
good value too. The Rendition cards are good 3D cards but not so
hot on 2D. See what you want from the cards and what games will
support these cards. Everyone has different priorities.
Happy hunting :-)

> Bollocks!
> 3dfx is the prime hardware to run Quake on (GLQuake was released today)
> Psygnosis are releasing F1 and Wipeout on 3dfx.
> 3dfx cards run Sierra's ***gladiators fine.
