Who Will Apologize To Ubi Soft First?

"Formulism is hosted on a server (gameloft) that is directly associated with
UBISOFT. For this reason UBISOFT had no choice, through contract with FIA,
to inform Formulism of the bad news. This is unlikely to effect any other
F1RC addon site. This is why no other F1RC site received the same email. If
you'll notice, Formulism mentioned moving to another server. "

So who here at r.a.s. will say "sorry" to Ubi Soft for jumping to
conclusions, ripping them apart, and calling for a boycott of F1RC?

Papyrus good. Other developers bad.

Unlike you, I will do that.  I apologise to Ubisoft even if I disagree with
their philosophy.  As for any kind of FIA excuse, it is just plain BS and
marketing PR lies.

Would not all of this have been avoided if Formulasim AND UBIsoft had come
right out and SAID in their statements and blathering that the business
connection
existed???
Seems to me both of those entities dropped the ball or...<xmode engaged>
UBI is using this trumped up exercise of censorship to impress the FIA and

Ubi Soft didn't say anything to the public about this. The Formulasim site
made the e-mails public, not Ubi Soft. You think Ubi Soft owes it to the
world to make all their business public. The web site should of known all
along what they could and couldn't do.

I guess you're right. They should of held a news conference and announced
their intentions publically. They should of sent out a press release, and of
course, checked with us here at r.a.s. before they dared contact the
Formulasim site. If we and our grandma's approved of their decision to
protect their agreement with the FIA, then, and only then, should they have
gone ahead and told Formulasim to take down the add-ons.

Bastards!

Who Will Apologize To Ubi Soft First?

Don't turn the argument around David.

Francois is, rightly so IMO, pointing out that if there was as tight a
collaboration between Ubisoft and Forulasim as is inferred in the
explanation of the incident there was no reason for the site to protest
Ubisofts decision in the way they did (as they should have seen it coming)
and/or for Ubisoft to take that tone of voice with the site. I.e. Ubisoft
dropped the ball by not reaching an amicable agreement with the site and the
site dropped the ball by attempting to rouse public opinion in favour of
their cause while witholding vital information with reference to the
argument from us. They were biting the hands that fed them, without letting
on they were doing so. I think it was natural for myself and others to be
outraged by the apparent "big corporation" picking on the "small
independant" site. Not everyone has blind faith, you know. <vwg>

You obviously don't think so, but IMO there is a lot that racing sim
developers can learn from RAS. That they choose to surround themselves with
brown-nosers is their decision and their loss. You cannot blame the people
on this newsgroup for holding opinions which are unpopular with most
commercial developers. Some would be advised to word them more carefully (I
admit I am guilty in this respect too), but I'm a big believer in the "can't
stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen"-principle. I fail to see how anyone
can complain about contributors here pointing out blatant omissions/errors
in released games which any representative/competent betatest pool should
have discovered within 1 minute of launching the release candidate (e.g. the
inability to assign game controls to axis on different controllers). We're
here, we show interest in anything remotely resembling a sim, most of us use
real or thinly disguised e-mail addresses. We're available to help
developers avoid embarrasment. Yet they seemingly rather make us out to be
deluded neanderthals, rather than get their shit straight.

Example? Ubisoft (yes, them again, first thing that came to mind... sorry.)
Pro Rally 2001... no self-respecting rally co-pilot ever comments on driver
performance while in the stage. Basic error, should have been caught the
first time someone even remotely connected to rallying (I only did 2
national rallies as a co-driver in my early 20's and even I know that)
played a stage. Yet this is in the final product. And they're calling this a
sim (remember you said reliving the experience was as important as the
actual modelling)? That's not even mentioning the horrible control and FF
lag, terrible engine/environmental sound and disjointed graphics. Who tested
this and on what kind of computer/controller config? -It just boggles the
mind.

Formulasim insist that there is no connection between their moving to
another server and the Ubisoft problems.  Apparently Gameloft are
ceasing to host any sites, not just Formulasim.

Quote from Roy34, Formulasim webmaster

"No Schumi... sorry but the question is completely different. We're
not subsidiary of everyone and have no contract with Ubi or Gameloft.
We're moving to another server simply for this reason: Gameloft is
closing all his hosting section, this means that all the sites like us
(hosted by Gameloft) have to transfer their sites.
The sense of Ubi's e-mail is clear: they have to show to Videosystem
(owner of FIA license 1999 season) and FIA that they are fighting
anyone updating F1RC... we know (they said this to us) that we were
only the first site and others are following.

They're off course closed for the weekend, we're giving up the hope
that something happens until monday to change this situation, ('cause
they're seeing all the negative feedback)."

End quote

Maybe you need to be apologising, David.

I will apologize, when I see it; the third party addons that is!  And when
the mods ring true then I will buy F1RC.

Wow, well I take my apology out of this.  Ubisoft are still in the wrong,
and HEAVILY.  I knew one day we would have a legal battle on people creating
add-ons vs. official add-ons for a sims.  Papyrus doesn't care, they know
that their expansion pack will be of quality.  Who would pay Ubisoft for a
simple carset upgrade and 2 new tracks?
