Nascar for Mac

Nascar for Mac

It looks like the mac version of Nascar will let you paint anywhere on
the car. It looks a lot different then nascar 2's paintshop. Argh!

but the stupid man will just lay down on some seaweed and roll around

If you look at the screenshot of the paintkit, this doesn't look to be
the case.  It appears as though they just combined the paintshop (where
you paint the polygons of the car) and the detail shop (where the
actual customization occurs) into one screen.  You'll notice that the
front fenders, roof pillars, rear deck lid, as well as the front and
rear bumpers still have no graphics on them.

I played the demo this weekend, and it's really similar to the DOS
version. The track files are the same (and I mean the same: the Mac OS
says they are "DOS files"...).

Things that were in the demo:
- auto spin recovery
- arcade damage
- WHEEL SPIN!!! Yes! Floor it in the pits and the car slides right
and left when you touch the steering wheel. Also useful for
recovering from a spin on the track. Revs go up to 8000, then
drop as you get more grip.
- the AI looked slightly more intelligent than in Nascar for DOS
- better replay (you can actually choose the moment you want to see)

The frame rate on my PowerMac 6100/66 was slightly better than on my
486/66 (a couple of frames more, but SVGA is still too much). I think
you need at least 90 Mhz to run it in SVGA.

90Mhz MacPowerPC or PCIntel? I have a P90 with 16 megs of RAM and Nascar
still doesn't get an optimum frame rate in SVGA. I will hopefully be
upgrading to a p166 with a Matrox Millenium soon.

You might as well wait until after Jan 8th when the P55C (the MMX
Penitums) are released.  You may also want to consider one of the
Rendition based video cards.
