Me and my buddy trying set-up connection true modem, we establish
connection, but when we are at the grid we're getting message: mismatch
set-up dat. or something like that. Then we follow on screen instruction to
try to fix the problem but unsuccessfully. We had two drivers set-up on my
machine and I am in control of the game. Please help as out.

To get gp2 working in a modem link, *BOTH* players must have the
*SAME* gp2 installation.

This means if either player has used any patches/editors/updates etc
for gp2, the other player must also have them installed. Sometimes you
even have to install them on both machines in the same order?

The easiest thing to do is start with a plain install of gp2 on both
pc's, then add the editors etc that you want to use, on both pc's, in
the same order, this should cure your problem.

Make up a carset with Steven Youngs GPEdit V1.81,install it into your game
then send the carset to your buddy and get him to install it into his game
without making any changes to it apart from selecting himself as the active
driver and you should be ready to go.My mate and i race by modem alot and
have no problems.
