Is 15" flat panel a no go for GPL because of the lower refresh rate?

CRT all the way.  Any delay between your inputs and when you see them can
only hurt you.

etc. but there is no refresh of the screen. The pixels are redrawn and is
measured in ms.

CRT or LCD
As we mentioned in the preceding pages, LCD monitors still can't hold a
candle to CRTs in terms of quality. Granted, their geometry is flawless,
they shrug off magnetic fields and they are astonishingly compact. However,
their response times and their effective color range are just too limited.
Graphic artists shouldn't even consider picking up one of these gadgets,
since they would only risk disappointment.

Have a look at this page to see various LCD monitors and their response time
specs. They are not all equal and the Eizo model might be perfectly adequate
for ***, but because of the poorer contrast gradations of LCD I would
never buy one myself until they imrove in this area, if they can.

LCDs don't "scale" very well, either.  That is, most of them have a native

above or below.  Why?  Because pixels aren't *drawn* on a LCD; they *are*
the LCD.  Each pixel is a discrete physical element, so when they have to
draw the screen at another rez, they have to emulate.  The only other rez
that would look good would be 512x384 'cuz it divides nicely into 1024x768
(even 2048x1536 wouldn't cut it, even if it could handle the referesh rate,

else--particularly text-- looks fuzzy.  Ganz klaar?

Ack!  Some simple math will tell you that at GPL's max frame rate of 36
fps, the LCD response time will have to be less than 28 ms or you will
be missing frames.  There are only 2 in that article that qualify, the
Viewsonic and the Eizo.  At 25 ms, even those would not be capable of
properly displaying any game that ran faster than 40 fps.

GPL: Flat panel vs CRT?

Given that GPL maxes at 37fps, I am wrong to think that any flat panel with
27ms response time of better is fine?

Also, even if response time is, say, 40ms - which is now typical - is this a
problem as the game is still responding at 37fps, even if showing 25fps.  I
don't know about others but I cannot time my breaking point to .01s
(difference between 37fps/25fps) purely on screen feedback, I'm more on
relative speed / position on track etc.

I also seem to remember reading somewhere that the human eye cannot
distinguish any difference after ~30fps, and that the subjective difference
reported after that was more due to other factors such as control response
getting worse as system load increased of FPS dropped momentarily.

Just my 2p.

Nigel,

There are many fine film editors in Hollywood that can spot a negative
scratch in FF on a S***beck flatbed--abt. 384 fps.

Samsung 18'' TFT here.... I wouldn't go back.. The picture quality is
amazing.... Although all TFT's are not equal.... I have see some really dodgy
15''.. The larger screens are a lot better..
