I play SCGT quite a bit off line. Months ago, with the demo only, I played a
few games online over the net (computer to computer) with a friend. Last
night with version 1.551 I tried again with another friend with the same
version. We could each host a game it seems, but couldn't join. How do you
play this game online??

You need to host then your friend has to type in your IP address and he
should see the race your hosting. He should then click on your race and
connect. (on dial up you need to be connected before opening the game).

Thanks. That's exactly what we tried, but when he typed in my IP, he didn't
find my game. We're both on cable modem, so we're connected all the time. I
tried the same with his and couldn't find his game either.  We used TCP/IP
protocal, so it should have worked. He's new to online anything, so maybe he
wasn't doing something right. I'll try it again on my 2 computers at home
and see if I can connect. I'm not sure what to type in at the address box
when I host, but I'll experiment.

Thanks again

Make sure you run winipcfg.exe JUST before you start your game - just in
case your IP address may have changed from the last time.

Just a guess, but did the joiner hit the "refresh" button after
entering the host's address?

If you're interested in racing with others, you could join the yahoo
scgt club (http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/sportscargtclub). We meet in
the chat room, then have somebody host some races.

We tried it with me hosting, and him hosting. The host put it in TCP/IP,
left the 'address or computer name' blank and created a game. The joiner
entered TCP/IP, entered the IP address of the host, hit OK, and hit refresh.
At this point a session name should have appeared which would be selected
and then hit join, but the session name (game name) never appears. (I
connect this way with my 2 computers at home so my kids can race.)  We did,
however, connect in Monster Truck Madness 2 and Midtown Madness.

Any other ideas?

When I hosted with my cable modem,  I had the same trouble.
Winipcfg reported that I had two ip #'s.  I think when I found the 2nd #
the other guy was able to join.  That was months ago tho...

I havent been following this, but I happened upon this thread.

Winipcfg reports the IP of the most recently installed or configured adapter
in a Win9x system.  In other words, if you have a LAN card and also get a
dynamic IP from a dialup,  The DUN IP should appear there.  On the other
hand, if you have a persistant cable modem connection (also usually through
an ethernet card) which predates the configuration of your own LAN, the
cable connection IP might not be the one that gets reported by winipcfg.

This doesn't directly relate to what you are discussing, probably, but it is
useful info in these situations when you can't seem to get the right IP in
the right place, etc.

Doesn't your cable modem have a static IP?  Mine's been the same for a
year now.
