Hi,
Im thinking about buying a T2 steering wheel and I was wondering if
its worth the investment?

Im playing GP2 with keys right now, but Id love to have a wheel and
pedals. What are the advantages, disadvantages with using the T2?

Yes, I love mine. But be careful how much you pay. I don't know how
you buy a T2 there, but here the prices vary from about $89 to $179,
off the shelf.

Advantages- you feel like you are really driving. Skills you may have
as an automobile driver transfer somewhat to using a T2, and likewise.
An extra feature- It is sort of a nice way to teach someone to drive.
A joystick or esp. keyboard is a terrible way to learn.

BTW, I saw a cheapo wheel the other day at waldensoftware- $80 combo.
Can't remember maker- no name. But if my T2 disappeared, I might try
this thing- it had buttons all over it, and looked much more like a
real F1 wheel. It wasn't quite as sturdy as a T2, but I'm pretty
gentle on my gear. Except for the last 5 laps of tonights [goddamn]
race at Hungary! Anyway, the shifter on a T2 is a bit of a pain; not
F1 style. More like an indy car.

I would say ... BUY IT!

The advantages:

You will feel like you're actually driving a car, great
control of throttle and brakes, you will be able to turn off all those
wimpy driving aids <G>, you will finally be able to do manual shifting.
Driving a car sim is no longer a game, it becomes an ***ing reality.

Disadvantages:

You will have to spend about US$100 , and for a time your track times will
be worse, you will have to learn how to modulate throttle and brakes since
hopefully you now play without driver aids on. You will find yourself
sweating a whole lot, since the driving is now much more realistic and
intense.
I have had my T2 for almost a year, and my only regret is that I didn't
get a wheel sooner. Also Thrustmaster has terrific customer support.

Hope that helps. ;-)

Cheers.

T2 Advantages:
- More like the real thing. You don't happen to drive your car to work using
  keys, right?
- Possible better lap times.

T2 disadvantages:
- Requires re-learning and it involves numerous visits to the sand traps and
  grass run-off areas.
- Price.

Keyboard advantages:
- Everybody has one.
- Easier to make consistent lap times.

Keyboard disadvantage:
- in GP2, starting from stand still means smoking your tires, often it will
destroy all the hard work you did in qualifying.
- too easy to lock up the wheels under braking.

You decide.

Next time you pick up your date or take the kids to the show (depending
on your age and marital standing of course)try driving your car with
your keyboard!  <:-)

Well worth the money IMO. In fact I will not buy a driving sim if it
does not support T2. TM is also coming out with a Formula wheel only
without the pedals for SRP of $89.95

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll pass on it- you sound like you
know what you are talking about. All the buttons were seductive... but
I must say, it looked pretty cheap. Indeed, like it might have been a
very suckable thing!

My T2 seems like it will last. THe steering wheel has a bit more play
in it than when I bought it.. but I have a faith that if it really did
fall apart, Tmaster would do the right thing.

The shifter is also on the wrong side for us Aussies :(
I cant picture myself using my right hand to shift gears.
Can it be moved to the left or is it fixed to the right side of the
dash?

The T2 is a great steering wheel, and Thrustmaster's customer support is
second to none.  I have never experienced a better customer support staff,
and their response time in getting parts out is excellent (no, I do not
work for Thrustmaster).  One wheel to steer clear of is the Per4mer
steering wheel... avoid it like the plague!

I have just recently purchased a T2 and I love it! Finally your racing
games will feel "real" At first my times were slightly off but as soon as
I got used to it they always pick up (allow one day to get comfortable
with it) The t2 seems to be constructed very durably and their customer
support is outta this world. In Gp2 and others you will need to play with
the wheel lock settings to make it seem like
it is "real" to you but it is woth every penny and will eventually bring
you much greater control and realism.

Definitely stuck on the right, I'd say. I think they were going for a
vague similarity with the indycar, which is also on the right. But it
turns out a whole lot of people are taking an hour or two and putting
buttons in the pre-made holes in the steering wheel. It isn't supposed
to be such a difficult chore; I've just never gottne around to it. If
you are interested , plenty of people here could supply you with how
they did it.
