T2 - Any Good? Where to get cheap?

by Tim OConn » Tue, 04 Jun 1996 04:00:00

I've been thinking about getting a T2 wheel and was wondering if the
quality of construction is any good?
I own a g-force wheel that really is not built very good. Does the T2
suffer from the same problem of being mushy around the center of the
turn radius. I mean do the pots track cleanly across the entire turn
radius. The g-force pots seemed to develop play (slip) around the
middle of the radius causing a jumping in the pot value, which would
then manifest itself in my slamming the wall at 180+mph.
What I'm really asking is does the T2 track cleanly, and give you a
good feel running right up againt the wall ????
Also, where can I get one cheap: less than 99 bucks ? anyone, anyone

Thanks
Tim

Hello,

For the price the T2 tracks pretty well. As far as I've been able to
tell there are no major jumps in the pot. I'm able to run right up
against the wall without hitting it; except for driver error :)
As for price, I got mine on sale at Circut City for $89 a few months
ago. I've seen them on sale fairly frequently at Computer City and
CompUSA (when you can find them in stock) for around $99. If you trust
mail order there is a company in May's issue of PCGamer called Computer
Express that advertises it for $99. They have a web site at
http://www.cexpress.com or http://cexpress.com   They list both so I'm
not sure which is right.

Hope this helps
John

People complain, but it seems very good to me.

My T2 made me much smoother than a joystick, that's all I know.
doesn't seem twitch at center at all.

Circuit City- $99. CompUSA- $130. What is with CompUSA, anyway? They
always cost more, except for their 2 or 3 freak sale items.

If you can wait until October, you can buy Thurstmaster's next generation
of wheels, that of the one with force-feed back, so you can actually feel
a crash, skid etc. I was about to but the T2, but now I have decided to
wait for their next wheel.

Hi Tim,

I own a T2, (cost me 165$ Can) and it is not mushy as pots are concerned, the
only problem I noticed is the fact that the axis of the wheel is kinda little
loose (just a bit) at first I was really disapointed, but again it doesn't
cost 495$ US like the high end products, and with time I forgot about that
little problem. I play GP1 and Indycar racing 2 with it and I don't have any
handling problem (no jumping in pots value).

Well that was my two cents, I donn't know about the other T2 users out there,
but I am quite satisfied with it. I have a project though to build a homemade
wheel and pedals, from the plans that you can find at Wally's homepage, and
that kind of wheel wont wobble (steel shaft, bearing mounted etc, etc,)you
should go visit it's worth the time, here's the address
http://www.oz.net/~wottenad/wheel.htm

Bye for now.

I have heard a lot about this T2.  And I want to get one.  Does it
require a special game port card, or can it just be plugged into the
joystick port in the I/O card?

Does anyone know where I can get one in UK?  and how much is it??

Works just fine here through my SB16. Some have problems and need an
adjustable game card.

Pick up a games mag and get it mail order. Outrageously expensive compared
to what our US friends pay though. Expect to pay about 120 quid.

Don't Believe that guy from OXFORD!  I phoned this morning to ***
Mega Store in central London, and it costs about 169.99.  It's the
Virtual Pilot that costs 99.

So it is still cheaper by mail order.
