What's wrong with GP3 2000 ?

by Sven » Sun, 26 Aug 2001 08:02:28

Hi.
I just got this, and it is really slow. Just barely playable in 800x600
compared to the org. GP3 running fine at 1280x1024!

Can it have something to do AMD / Intel or maybe a videocard problem?

My system:
1200 Mhz T.bird
384 Mb Ram.
Geforce 2 GTS 32 Mb (Detonater 12.90)
Windows 2000 Pro.
SB Live

What is your systems? Especially you who has a framerate improvement?

Sven,

Obviously, if you're running a dual boot, you might try GP3 2000 in some
other OS besides Win2000.  I know that, though GP3 2000 runs well for me
under XP, it runs better under WinMe.  It's one of the few games that run
better under WinMe when compared to XP.

Also, you might try a reinstall or if that fails to improve things, try
running the game with your soundcard disabled.  Then I'd go through all the
driver issues, first reinstalling the video driving or going to a different
version and then dealing with the soundcard drivers.

Whatever your problem is, I think that most here who have both GP3 and GP3
2000 would agree that GP3 2000 runs a bit slower than GP3.  I felt the
difference between the two.

What's wrong with GP3 2000 ?

See my earlier post on this.  I'm using Athlon 1.3 with GF2 Ultra on XP and
GP3 2000 runs like a sickdog. At 1280 on GP3 I get an occupancy of about
40-50% with GP3 2000 it is about 1890!
Every other game/sim I used on XP has been beeter than ME.
Also, I can't get EAX and hardware sound on the menus as it doesn't seem to
redognise my SBLive!.
Weird.

I had a problem with anti aliasing being forced in my Nvidia drivers
settings. Turning it off corrected my problem.

OK, I meant 180% not 1890 - its not as bad as that!
I've also resolved the sound problem, but the graphics performance is weird.
It is not related in any way to the resolution.  If I set to 1280 1024 or
800 the performance is equally bad, occupancy near 200%.  This makes the
game unusable.  It's OK in practice mode though (Occ about 50%) so I can get
a feel of the differences from GP3.

That's exactly what I see too. Nomatter the resolution, the game runs bad.
Can it have something to do with AMD and Win NT kernal? As I wrote, I also
has an AMD T.bird and running in Windows 2000.
I have tried to install a dualboot, where the other system is Windows Me,
and on the same PC GP3 2000 now runs just fine!! With EAX, FF and 1280x1024
everything runs smooth! Strange .... After SP2 for Windows 2000 I have seen
many games run better and better, but now this one turns the clock backwards
again. I don't have Windows XP (allthoug we here in Denmark can buy a WinXP
RC1 for about 4$), but I can understand from you, that games noemaly runs
fine under XP, but not this one!

I have tried to use the same generation of drivers in winme (det.3 12.90,
liveware 3.0 aso) to eliminate errors at this.

Ideas??

In win2k GP3 2000 runs fine if you select "Original GP3 sound". It seems it
has something to do with SB-live drivers for Windows 2000.

Well it's gotta be an issue with the new AI and win2000/xp. Have
either of you tried a multiplayer race (with no AI)? My money's on
that running nicely as well.

GP3 seems to do EVERYTHING different from other sims, so I'd suggest
they just haven't done enough beta testing to resolve this issue with
the win2000/xp OS's

That's bad news for you guys though :( Maybe you'll have to stick with
GP3 or go a dual boot.

Hmmm, well maybe Crammond needs to work on his sound routines for sb
lives. Funny that 3rd party addons can do it months previous, with
less issues :)
