According to this post, EA knows there is a geforce problem and is working
on it.  No known fix as of yet.

It's the Geforce getting hot. Try lowering it's clock and memory speed a
little when using NFSPU.

Also happened to me all the time with my TNT2 graphic card.
I tried lots of graphic setup combinations (including lens flare off) and
nothing worked - it still locked up all the time.

The last - desperate - thing I tried was to disable sidebanding in the video
BIOS - and *that* did it for me - not a single lock up since then! ;o)

Good luck!

I can only describe how it works with my video card - but hopefully you can
do something similar with your type of video card:

It's an ASUS AGP-V3800TNT2 and if I go to:

http://www.asus.com/Products/Addon/Vga/asuse/enthusiast_drv.htm

I can download a program called "V3800 BIOS Flash program (Ver. 2.5.13a)".
When I run this program it asks if I want to enable or disable sideband -
and then it flashes the Video BIOS with these settings.

Try a search for "sideband" on your videocard manufactures homepage.
