GPL Question? Is it Possible

by Michae » Sun, 04 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I was wondering if it's possible to get the telemetry seen in the arcade
view
when running from inside the***pit view. I am using the tach but wouldn't
mind seeing some
speed numbers at certain areas/corners on the track.

I love this sim, been concentrating on learning the tracks.
The Glen and Monza. Just ran a 133.58 at  Monza, awesome, in the Lotus.
I had been running the Eagle but I like the overall performance of the
Lotus. Yes it's squirrelly, but I have noticed when I start to lose it if I
bring up the
power it fights it's way out.

This sim just keeps you coming back for more, because it hard, which makes
one
commit to it, but it's not impossible and you do get better if you keep
driving laps
and dialing in the track and you ride.

I concurr with those who believe nothing like this has ever been achieved
before.

I agree that it would be nice to actually see your speed, but unfortunately
that wouldn't be "realistic" since the cars did not have speedometers. Maybe
they could add this in as a convenient "cheat", as otherwise I have NO idea
what speeds these cars are hitting.

Well... that's exactly the point...

Race in a realistic way.. stay in the***pit and don't see your speed, like
in real-life

or...

Race in F10, in a unrealistic way, somehow arcade, and get the possibility
to view your speed and so...

No - my point was that they give us a way to race unrealistically, yet
don't give us a way to view RPM/Speed realistically when in the***pit.
Inconsistent.

GPL Question? Is it Possible

Got up this morning and suddenly found myself in the "sweet spot" at Spa.  Ya
know, the point at which you've had enough practice on a particular track that
your best laps start coming down two and three seconds a lap?  What a blast!

Papyrus, I've never "played" anything on a computer that gives me more of a
sense of satisfaction and accomplishment than GPL.  Four days after getting it,
I have yet to race.  Learning the cars and tracks will keep me busy for a long
time.  And loving it.

There's a spectator in a brown suit at the exit from Eau Rouge, standing there
by himself.  Know the one?  I've now taken that guy to his maker so many times
I'm on a first name basis with his virtual lawyers and heirs.

Lol, I've done the same thing a few times. I've just started running at the
Spa, it's really beautifully done.
Papyrus has definitely upped the ante in racing sims with GPL.

Actually, back in the day they didn't have rpm/speed "numbers"  they had an
analog tach, that I guess probably wasn't real clear with the vibrations and
such.

Inconsistent?...Not at all. You aren't making sense:

"in-car" mode: no #'s on the readouts    - REAL
"F10" mode: #'s are displayed - ARCADE/unrealistic

OR

"realistic" mode - REAL
"arcade" mode - unrealistic

seems consistent to me!
