On those lines of thinking.........What would you be willing to PAY for this
promising "blockbuster" sim?

What if ,at release, the price is $99.99 ??? I say I would pay that much ,or
more, IF I liked the D-E-M-O (hint hint Empire)

Think about all the software thats out there that costs hundreds of dollars
because it's designed for a niche market and isn't going to sell millions of
copies to be able to turn a huge profit. So what happens? The price goes up.
Wether that market be a CAD program for engineers or architects---video and
audio editing software for professionals , or *** simulation racers.
The companies that sell them know if it's not going to sell lots, but there
will still be a loyal following who definetly will pay top dollar for first
class software desing and support then they can charge a higher price for
their product.

Tell me where to send my check Empire. I'm sending you a blank one.(Just
don't let my wife see it.)

Hey Tony and Chris, what are you two doing here? Stop reading newsgroups and
get back to it!!!!!

I'd pay a lot for WSC

BUT

West Bro's have already said that this game MUST appeal widely to make
money - and it aint gonna appeal to many people if it's more than 35.99

Well at this price I can't see many Aussie simmers buying it.

Live Rates as of 2001.05.24 00:26:31 GMT.
            100.00 USD
United States Dollars   =   193.913 AUD
            Australia Dollars
            1 USD = 1.93913 AUD   1 AUD = 0.515696 USD

This marketing strategy won't work with game software, because it has
a finite shelf life. It doesn't expire, but something better always
comes along.

With that in mind, I'd pay $50 for it. That is about the most I'll pay
for any entertainment software. If WSC came out for $99, it'd be in my
price range in less than 4 months.

There was a company that did a combat simulation. Someone can correct
me if I'm wrong, but I think the name of the company was Military
Simulations, and the game was called  "Back To Bagdad" or something
like that. It came out for $100. That company is no longer around.
As realistic as it tried to be, it was entertainment software.

The funny thing is that companies making simulation software for pilot
training can successfully sell their stuff for up to $300, and
upgrades for $100.
This seems to be kind of the market you're putting WSC in, but since
it won't help you achieve the goal of getting your racing liscense,
it'll always be considered entertainment software.

Sorry for the ramble, but it's an interesting question and I wanted to
back up my rationale.

Anything under 100$ would be good for me.  It won't ever be more, unless it
wants to be a commercial failure (imho).  If somebody wants to pay more for
WSC, I'm sure the West Brothers will gladly accept donations ;-D

Hmmmm, $150 Canadian... yes, failure would be an understatement.

For me, if WSC lives up to its promise then it's the closest thing to a
"killer app" for the hardware I have (or will have).  Most people here
(r.a.s'ers) would likely buy it without hesitation at that price but not
many other consumers would.

Too bad the Wests can't skip the retail channel and make this a downloadable
product.  I'd pay $100 and burn my own CD happily if I thought that (almost)
all that money was going to the creators.

I like the idea of being able to buy into the late stages of beta testing
via paypal or something similar. I'd happily pay full release price or
more to DL it and be practising the full sim a month or two ahead of the
competition. God knows I need all the help I can get to be competitive :->
