My framerates are really bad (less than 20).  I have GF3 with 23.11 drivers
and 1.4GHZ system.  Any ideals on what I can do to increase them.

Thnaks,
Chris

Check and see if antriscopic filtering is checked in your graphics settings
in options.
Configure it to use Tnl Hal if you have not.
I had the same problem until I unchecked atriscopic filtering.

NR2002 Frame rate

First, we must keep in mind that this is a DEMO.  With that said...

ABIT KG7/512MB/AthlonXP 1800+/TBSC/1280X960X16.

All options except Anistropic Filtering turned on (Anistropic filtering
absolutely kills the frame rate).

Mine are ok in testing.  Around 80fps.

However, when I join a race at Atlanta with 19 cars, it drops like a rock.
20-30fps.

And it sure doesn't seem to be due to AI, because there doesn't seem to BE
any AI.  These guys are kamakazi drivers.  I have yet to pass more than 2
cars without one of them simply pulling me down and ramming me right off the
track.

Also, the contact physics are all screwed up.  Just the _slightest_ tap send
one or both cars spinning.  Even barely touching an AI car in the rear on
the straight sends them spinning off into the sunset.

Rubbin' is Racin', but not in this demo :)

I sure hope it isn't like that in the final.  If it is, online racing is
going to be a disaster.

Setups from N4 are un-useable.  My Atlanta setup for N4, which is really
quite good (one of the few I've been able to do well), is ***in N5.  The
front end washes out horribly.  I had to re-set everything from scratch.

I will say this.  You can _really_ feel the effets of the track-bar in N5.
Enough that just 1/4 of a turn really means a lot, especially in getting the
power down off-corner.  One round too much, and you find yourself loosing
the rear end.

The physics seem to want to snap-spin on you if you lose the rear even the
slightest bit.

The Sound is very, very good.  It took 5 versions and about 6 years to get
it right, but by golly it actually sounds like a Race car now :)

There is still a little bit of crackling, but I honestly think that's an NT
(2K/XP) thing.  We may never get rid of that totally in games.

Is it just me, or do the sounds seem to be lacking ALL base components,
though?  I have the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's and they really rumble in N4.  In
N5, even with the base cranked up all the way (and this is one SERIOUS
sub-woofer), there's nothing there.

When you really get down to it, the Interface is exactly the same, only
different.  I haven't decided whether I like it or not.

I'm also not sure I like the new guage layout or not.  I still haven't
figured out which one is the temp.  You can't read the damned things, and
because NO damage appears to be modeled, you can't overheat and set off the
light.

Anyone notice the flame out the exhaust, and even neater, the sparks that
you get if you scrape the wall, neat!

Stability has been NO problem for me at all.

I think the Graphics are a bit better.  Closer to NH quality.  In fact,
overall, the demo feels a little bit _more_ like NH.

In summary:

1.  Nicer graphics and effects.
2.  Better Sound (especially tire scrub and squeal), but the bass component
seems to be missing completely.
3.  The AI is brain-dead.
4.  I am VERY concerned about frame rates.
5.  Stability is fantastic.
6.  I can take or leave the new interface.
7.  Not sure about the interior yet.  Need full working guages and damage to
evaluate their usefulness.  The need to be more legible!
8.  Damage model is an unknown at this point.

All of the above are based on the DEMO, and are taken with a grain of salt.

I will buy it.  The Demo did it's job.

A "serious" sub-woofer is an Audio Pro B2-50. Combined with a pair of
Tandberg amps. Anything else is just a  frivolous toy.

Ditto Don.  I couldn't want any more performance from my PC system.  They
even rival my home system for quality of sound.

I assure you, the Klipsh ProMedia 5.1's are quite sufficient for a computer
:)

Ditto...

The new PowerDVD XP 4.0, with full DTS and Dolby 5.1 support, makes them
even better.  The beach landing in Saving Private Ryan is amazing on these
speakers (assuming you have the appropriate sound card - The TBSC is great).

Iain,

It's [CTRL] F I think... if not that then it's [ALT] F.

Should be just the F key for frame rate.

I had just read a lot about them, and I have not been dissappointed. Plus, I
love good sound.
They are awesome.
