Nice trolling attempt, but your bait just sank directly onto the bottom of
the lake.

Wouldn't say directly Francois... I hesitated at least a split second on
whether to dignify his statement with an answer. <g>

He sure did pass someone for the lead. He passed Barrachello
as he went in for his 2nd pitstop :-)

Also the Jaguars started in the rear of the field (14th) and Irvine
finished 5th. I suppose you are going to claim there was no passing
there either?

I was at the race (right by the S/F line across from the podium).
But I recorded all of the speedvision stuff and the ABC race
broadcast. I just got done with the speedvision stuff and will
watch the race tonight. The speedvision guys did interview
Bob Jenkins, and he admitted he was freaking out because
he had no idea what was going on in F1 these days. So he
was trying to do a crash course. I suspect one of us could
have done better :-)

I wonder how many cars the Jag actually passed.  Other than using the pits
as you mentioned Mika over Ruebens.    Still it seems that Cosworth is
finally generating some decent power again.  Watch out for Arrows next year.

"ymenard" > > c.  Why were there only 22 cars?  Could F1 manage to bring a

only if you consider 22 cars a full field.  Nascar allows 43 and usually
several others are sent home when they couldn't qualify fast enough.  The
Indy 500 itself has 33 cars.  So.....22 seems a-bit light to Nascar-bred
Americans.

Or rather, that traction control has always been there, they couldn't
police it, so they now allow it.  Break the rules often enough and the
transgressions BECOME the rules.

I accept it's "our" (Britain) fault for building what seems to be a
fundamentally flawed oval circuit (should have just repaved Brooklands ;) )
but by the time the interesting two? laps at the end happened I'd already
woke up and done something else.

I should point out I was watching it on TV in the middle of Sunday
afternoon, not at some ungodly hour!

< most of Tom's lame trolling deleted >

I've read all the interviews on several F1 sites and have seen nothing even
remotely like this. I like the way you say it's paraphrased, yet put it in
quotes.  Sounds like you supplied your own biased interpretation
here..Please point us to the actual quote so we can see what Schumacher
actually said.

I'm sure you are right (about the VROC drivers beating Schumacher in GPL),
and that would prove absolutely nothing about Schumacher's ability to drive
a real car,  only his lack of experience in moving pixels around on a
computer monitor.  By your reasoning, you could take the same VROC drivers
and put them in Schumacher's Ferrari, give them 48 hours, and they would
post laps faster than Schumacher's 90% of the time.  And even you are not
foolish enough to believe that.

A while back, you posted one of your long-winded manifestos calling on
everyone to stop talking about GPLRank and (shudder) hot lapping because
you were afraid that some real drivers might stumble upon this newsgroup
and not take us as seriously as you take yourself. I think they are far
more likely to dismiss sim racers in general, and you in particular, after
reading your above nonsense.

But that's just my opinion,

Jan...

I was actually making a pretty near "tongue in cheek" set of
remarks.....but you answered them with large amounts of
"seriousness".....and some excellent logic and points.  Now I think
people won't mostly realize I was kidding around.

Your reply was quite refreshing......"thank you."  And, that's being
serious.

Tom

I was lucky enough to get tickets at turn 1 this year and saw LOTS of passing -
Barrichello on Montoya, Montoya on Schumacher, Alesi passing both Bennetons
simultaneously(!), Irvine on Heidfeld, and much more.

Yeah, the Arrows with a Cosworth motor could be interesting next year.
F1-live.com are speculating that Frentzen might replace Bernoldi at Arrows in
'02.

No, I have not.  What do you know?

I just can dissociate the past from the present.
