Fans of the GPL demo might want to check out Tim Considine's new book "American
Grand Prix Racing - a Century of Drivers and Cars". The book, of course, is
just as the title suggests, a history of American involvement in Grand Prix
racing, and is quite good, even if it is a bit thinner than I'd like to see! (
no problem with the book, just not enough American's in GP these days! )
The reason it appeals to GPL fans is the 7th chapter "Going for the Gold -
1966-1968", in which the reader is treated to wonderful photographs of Gurney
and Shelby's All American Racers Team and a stirring account of Dan's victory
at Spa in 1967. There is an especially good photograph on page 138 of the
leaders in Eau Rouge on lap 1. I can't wait to try this track in GPL!
And for those who still don't believe that these cars were a handful to drive,
take a look at the shot on page 140 of Gurney pressing hard to catch Stewart,
it looks as if each wheel is pointed a different direction!
Did anyone else know that Bobby Unser drove in a Grand Prix? I sure wish Al Sr.
had been given a chance in an F1 car. In his prime, there wasn't a better pure
racer around IMO.
