Force Feedback Wheels and CPU Cycles

I'm in the market to retire my venerable T2 and would like to know which FF
wheel saps the fewest CPU cycles and still performs well.  At a meager
200MHz, I find myself trying to optimize at every opportunity.

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

According to Randy Cassidy, the Logitech is the less CPU hungry
when he tested the FF in GPL

Why not just upgrade your CPU and/or motherboard?  You could pick up
something like a 400MHz K6/2 or Celeron, and board for not much more
than the price of a decent FF wheel.  Then all your games would benefit
as well as regular apps and day to day use.

Thanks for the response, guys.  The new machine comes in January (married, 1
child, 'nuff said).  I'll check out that Logitech job.

Cheers,

Glenn

The USB based FF wheels perform much better than those using a  gameport
with serial port.

Speaking of his findings....
Does anyone know if he ever tasted Saiteks FF unit?
Afaik, it got M$ "firmware"...  - is that good or bad??

The reason I ask is that I'm thinging about getting a FF-wheel, and to me...
the wheel HAS to have a shifter... I cant stand these push buttons... feels
so damn wrong in GPL :-))

I just bought a Saitek R4 and love GPL a whole heap more now.
PAPY have done a excellent job on the FF.  It is the best FF i all all the games
i have played (GPL, SCGT ,  Midtown Madness)

Does anyone think that Viper racing is worth buying ?

Try this:

The Saitek wheel is pretty decent overall, IMO.

I played the heck out of Viper Racing, and I really liked the FF effects
with my Saitek wheel.  If you like GPL, you should like Viper Racing, too.
