Formula Force GP owners - registry information needed

by BrianM » Thu, 04 Oct 2001 09:19:36

I need some information from anyone who has a Formula Force GP wheel and is
comfortable using regedit to browse their registry.

I have a Logitech Driving Force (force feedback) wheel for the PS2 (for use
with GT3). It also works with a PC - but without force feedback.

Windows (98SE) detected it as a USB Human Interface Device and it appears as
a "Logitech Driving Force" in the Control Panel->Game Controllers.

However, the latest Logitech Wingman Profiler (4.00.151) does not recognize
that it is plugged in. I've read that it's possible to edit the registry to
get the profiler to recognize it as a Formula Force GP wheel for the PC.

It involves renaming the registry keys below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \
MediaProperties \ PrivateProperties \ Joystick \ OEM

VID_046D&PID_C294 is renamed to VID_046D&PID_C294a
VID_046D&PID_C293 is renamed to VID_046D&PID_C294

However, in the path above, I do not have an key entry for:
VID_046D&PID_C293

If someone who has a Formula Force GP wheel can tell me what the
string/binary values are for this key (name and data pairs), it would be
much appreciated.

Thanks, Brian

Here's the reg key for mine:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\MediaProperties\Pri
vateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_046D&PID_C293]
"OEMName"="Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP USB"
"ConfigCLSID"="{60150957-C4AE-11d1-B59B-00A0C9971EFC}"
"OEMData"=hex:41,00,08,10,06,00,00,00
"Flags1"=hex:04,00,00,00
"OEMCallout"="joyhid.vxd"

There are also a lot of subentries for axes and forces.  I think the
Profiler will set that up once it recognizes it, but just in case it
doesn't, I have attached a reg file with the entire subtree for that
controller.

Haqsau

Hi,

I think that downloading the Wingman software from www.wingmanteam.com
should do the trick of properly configuring your wheel without any
registry tweaks.

Thanks all for the info.  I'll try these and post the results.

Thank you very much - it worked,

I used the attached registry update file to add the entry:
VID_046D&PID_C293

Following the instructions above, I renamed the keys:

VID_046D&PID_C294 is renamed to VID_046D&PID_C294a
VID_046D&PID_C293 is renamed to VID_046D&PID_C294

The Control Panel->Game *** Option recognzed it as a Wingman Formula
Force GP.  However, the Wingman Profiler (4.00.151) still does not recognize
the wheel.  As a result, the gas/brake pedals are always combined on the
y-axis of joystick 1.

Force feedback works on all the PC games/sims that I have installed. Only
one minor issue - of all the buttons on the Driving Force wheel (there are
10, plus the PS2 D-PAD), 6 of these map differently to the 6 buttons on the
Formula Force GP. The button mappings are:

ID Formula Force GP Driving Force
=============================
1 Left Paddle = X button
2 Right Paddle = Sqaure button
3 Right spoke top = Triangle button
4 Left spoke top = Circle button
5 Left spoke bottom = Right spoke top
6 Right spoke bottom = Left spoke top
7 N/A = Left spoke bottom
8 N/A = Right spoke bottom

BTW, there is a new version of the profiler at www.wingmanteam.com , but I
didn't try this.

The wheel works with GPL. F1RC, NFSPU, TOCA2, CMR2, RC2000, GP3, F1 2000 CS,
Viper, Nascar Heat, N3, CPR, CART, Super 1 Karting, DTR, DTRSC, SODA,
Midtown Madness 2, Monster Truck Madness 2, ...

If I understand you correctly, the extra buttons do not work?  Or they
just do not map correctly?  I think you could probably fix that in the
registry.  Notice the keys for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\MediaProperties\Priv
ateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_046D&PID_C293\Buttons.  There are 6 keys
there, numbered 0 through 5.  You could add keys 6 through 9.  Add the
"attribute" key from button 5, and increment the 7th byte of the
"attribute" value by 1 for each button.  Worth a try.

Formula Force GP owners - registry information needed

I'm following along all this, and created the VID ... 293 file and
renamed stuff, but the device doesn't show up in the game controllers
section.  A couple of thoughts: There is no "text key" earlier in the
list like there is for the serial devices.  Is there another "naming
key"?  OR, my game devices input selection only has a standard port
option (no USB in the drop down) and no USB devices show up in the
selection screen.  How do I add the USB devices?  Thanks for any help.
 (I'm new at this registry stuff.)
