by Blazer » Fri, 26 Feb 1999 04:00:00

hi all,
i havent frequented this group but maybe this would be the best place to come
ask.
'scuse me for i have been under a rock as well :))
i was in the mall last weekend and saw NASCAR 99 for PC
..this was first time i saw it and wowee!! it looked soo cool!!
it has Winston Cup, B-Grand National, and (whoa!) Craftsman Trucks too!!!
now my questions ..
one..is it worth 50 bucks?
two. will i have to get anything extra to play this game?  or is it setup to
go..
i have IBM Aptiva windows 95,  24 MB ram. will i be able to set it up and
race...and using the keyboard? i dont have any pads or jsticks..
if anyone knows ..any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
 thankies!

Also, try to find it for < $50.  I don't know where you are, but Wal Mart
has it here for $35 or $40, and it is on sale at Best Buy for $38 this week.

You should definitely consider a joystick at the least (even a cheap one),
to enjoy the game.  Wheels and pedals are getting pretty cheap these days.

If you find you need a 3d video card, post and you will get many
suggestions, but one that will help can be had for under $50.

thanks for the help.
i have pentium 458...
does this run under DOS?
i guess the 3DFX vid card is where i am concerned the most.. i dont know if i
have one and ive heard they cost quite a few bucks..
i was hoping it wouldnt be necessary to upgrade with stuff(other than gamepads
etc.)
..if i had to do all that , i'd just stick with the playstation versions of
nascar ;)

blasertz,

NASCAR 1999 Edition is a great game, and an especially good deal if you
do not already own NASCAR 2 and the BGN add-on.  However, you should be
able to find it for $29.99 or $34.99 at Wal-Mart.  It is probably worth
$50, but you need not pay that much.

Hey just have to add, this is NOT the same as nascar 99 for playstation.
This is more of a realism game than an arcade type game like the one for
playstation.  You said a pentium 458.  You mean a P2 450 or a 486?  If it is
the latter then dont get Nascar 99.  It wont run well and you will be highly
disappointed.  But if it is a P2 450 then it will run great on your machine.

There are several aspects of the game that Playstation couldn't touch
even if PAPYRUS did a version for it (which they don't).  The Playstation
doesn't give you the freedom of downloading a customized decal set and logo
set so you can paint your truck (or car) ANY way you want!  I downloaded a
Monte Carlo painted to look like it was sponsored by the Navy (thanks Mike
Peterson!!!!!) and I managed to alter it and make it look like a Dodge
truck.  You can have entire seasons and run the SAME schedule the WC (or
CTS, or BGN) cars do on the SAME track on the SAME day they do! (well,
there's I think 3 WC tracks not included)  It's the MOST fun you can have
driving on a PC.  You can dumb down the AI to below arcade level, or pump
'em up to full WC glory!  You can have auto xmission, steering and braking
help, or set up tire pressure at each corner.  It's truly awesome.

Get it NOW <GG>.  There are patches out now where you can run 1971
Nascars, 1969 Superbees (remember the tall tailfins?!), BMW's and Porsche's,
GT40 cars, IROC (!!), open-wheeled modifieds are coming soon.  There's a
reason a 3-year old game is STILL the best in it's class (and even in OTHER
classes!).

Not exactly answering the question, but don't buy NASCAR Revolution.  It
absolutely does not support ATI Rage chipsets.

the psx N99 version is okay imo..but this one looks incredible! 3 divisions of
my fav racing..and d/l's available as well.  i havent tried Nascar 2 or the BG
add-on fearing the same thing i am now..it may not be compatible to my system.
now 486 sounds familiar..but where can i look this up?ive looked all through my
cpu and cannot find this info now!  if it is a 486 your saying it wont run well
..in what way wont it?
maybe this will help..i have Sierra's Nascar Racing(same version as psx `86) it
runs under DOS.. i cant get sound to work but it runs fine.
again any info is greatly appreciated!!

Since the Rage is a shit chipset, this is not a bad thing it is
a plus :-)
