Hi,
I set up the car at it's lowest ride height for Hockenheim, the plank
must have been worn all the way (did not check) .
I won the race, but with a plank worn that much why was'nt I
disqualified ??
Greetings from Rob,

RTFM. You won't get disqualified but loos a lot of groundforce.

The manual says you won't get disqualified when wearing out the plank, but you will
get a drag penalty. I guess it means your speed will be reduces when the plank toutches the ground
but I can't say I have noticed any of that.

The manual is wrong.  The FIA set a rule allowing only a certain amount
of plank wear.  The rule was put into place to prevent the teams from
running the cars on the ground.  Schumacher was disqualified from his win
at Spa for this.

You won't get DQ'd in the Game. I can just imagine the flood of
complaints if people were to run a 100% race only to be DQ'd because of
plank wear. So they just give you extra drag when you wear it down.

I am aware that too much plank wear gets you disqualified in F1, but the game handles it differently.

Well, the manual isn't wrong.
You DON'T get disqualified from wearing the plank to much, but you will
get a loss in top speed if the plank gets over 1mm wear.
Of cause, in real life, IT'S OUT SCHUMI ;-)

It would be nice to have it as an option though.....

as the sandpit will not trap you., This is for
gameplay. However. Wearing down the plank beyond 1
millimeter should slow your top speed down (mine
goes to 190 at Hockenheim, for example) but I'm not
sure for how long it does it.

Umm, RTFM :)

It states that you will just have the additional drag rather than a
disqualification.

The damage indicator in your***pit goes red where the plank is
if you are running too low.  Then you see a noticeable difference
in downforce.

Set the ride height as low as possible without it flashing red -
watch the sparks fly!

The manual is right. The manual states clearly that in Real F1 championship you are
disqualified if wear is more than 1 mm. The manual also states that in F1GP2 you are not
disqualified but your car suffers a slight increase in drag wich produces reduction in
top velocity ( Ive estimated it around 2 KM/H in Hockenheim. but thats not official).
You are right about Schummie. FIA hopes this rule reduces the max speed of the cars so
increasing safety.

So, if you want 'realism', stop driving and you you'll have the
equivalent of being DQ'ed. And if you keep doing it, ban yourself
from the next race(s) :-)

Consider the same self-abuse if you push someone off who had
the legitimate race line.

It doesn't have to be written in the software for us to copy
what would happen in real life.

Is a little bit of plank wear normal over the course of the race as
the car bumps around?

If you read in the manual it mentions this somewhere. It says that the
penalty for having the ride height too low is to scrape the plank on the
ground and slow the car down due to this friction instead of
disqualifying to.
Read it. It's in the manual somwehere (I don't have it on me right now).
