GTR 2002 No CD?

by Haqsa » Tue, 03 Dec 2002 05:32:09

When I installed GTR 2002 I pointed it at my no CD exe file, but it
still demands the CD when it starts up.  Apparently it comes with its
own custom exe.  I suppose it is too soon to be able to find a no CD
crack for this, but does anyone know of a workaround?

And before somebody flames me, yes I do own the game, I just don't like
having to load a CD for every game I play.

I've been using the no-cd from day one and the mod works fine.  Have you
made sure the shortcut is pointing to the nocd file and not the original
exe?(I also turned off the two intro movies to save myself two or three
seconds each time it boots)

GTR 2002 never asked me for the CD.  Did you apply the NO-cd exe
before the install of the mod?

The shortcut that the mod installed points to the GTR2002.exe, not to
the F1 2002 exe.  Did you make your own shortcut?  I suppose I could try
that.

NM I figured it out.  Apparently "F1_2002.exe" is hardcoded into the
GTRacing2002.exe.  So in my case, since I kept the original exe and was
using a F1_2002_noCD.exe instead, it wasn't finding it.  I just changed
the name and now it works fine.

there is a startup file in the main 2k2 folder, I forgot I pointed the
shortcut to that.  here's my path, I have it on my F:\ drive.
"F:\program files\EA SPORTS\F1 2002\GTRacing2002.exe"  config=
or you could save a step and point the shortcut to gtrun.exe

That sounds a little different.  Make sure you are running the shortcut
that GTR installed in the F1 2002 directory.  I'm not sure if it will
work if you just run GTR.exe directly.  Anyway, in my case I had two
executables in there before, an F1_2002.exe and an F1_2002_noCD.exe.
Normally I ran the noCD exe, but I saved the other one in case a future
patch required it.  When you run the shortcut for GTR it runs
GTR2002.exe, which apparently then runs F1_2002.exe with some command
line arguments to get it started correctly.  So in my case it was
running the original file, which required the CD.  So I changed the name
of F1_2002.exe to F1_2002.exe.0 and then changed the name of
F1_2002_noCD.exe to F1_2002.exe, so that now the GTR program will run my
no CD exe instead.  Works fine.  Except this looks like a really good
way to lose a lot of sleep.  ;o)
