NFS: Porsche question

In the CAREER mode how many missions are there after the mission where you are
"filming the commercial".   I am unable to complete this level.  I've been stuck
here for about 3 months and even brough in a friend who is an expert at these
kind of games and he cannot get past this level either.

I just want to know if I give up how much am I going to miss.  Are there any
cheats to skip assignments?

Thanks.

Well these factory driver things aren't all that hard, mostly you have to
spin the right way and start the spin a bit before the cones so it counts
them.  If you need help performing a 360 spin that's simple too, just ask.

This site has replays of factory driver missions:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~eel/nfswr/index.html
The other pages there have replays and setups for world record times, many
of which are mine heehee.  It got frozen in time back in August, but they
are still pretty decent.

My main problem is the one I am stuck on requires a 180 then go in reverse and
do another 180 to go forward again.  After at least 100 attempts (no
exaggerating) I am still unable to perform the reverse 180.  It has something to
do with my timing and juding the cones in my mirror.

Should I be do this track in 3rd person view?  I hate that - its so arcade!

Are you turning in the direction that the arrows are pointing.  I had
so much trouble myself, until I learned that I was spinning the wrong
way.

I had a helluva time with that one, too.  You've got more time than you
think to complete this and going slower did the trick for me in the 180
part.  Relax and don't think too hard.  3rd person didn't do it for me.
There are several more 'missions,' the last of which is the showdown with
Stephanie.  Good luck!  And hey, if I can do it, so can you.
...Trust me :o)

Unfortunately I had to give up on this level (and the game).  After another 3
hour session I am still unable to finish the Commercial level.  I think the
biggest problem is that this is the first mission I have been forced to drive a
manual trans and I simply cannot orchestrate the combination of shifting and
handbrake to pull of the necessary moves.

Unless there is a way to pull-off a 180/360 without the use of the handbrake I
am doomed.  Trying to flip the butterfly paddles and the handbrake button all at
the same time while twisting the wheel is impossible (for me).

Alright, try setting all the driving 'settings' to "on", i.e., ABS, traction
etc. Set up your shifting to where W=upshift  S=downshift  Space=handbrake
(there is no way to execute the 180/360 without the handbrake).  You should
be in 2nd gear as you enter the cones.  Off the gas, hit your space bar,
turn and tap your S key three times and slowly back for the next set.  Once
in the next set, you won't have to use the handbrake to turn but you will
have to tap your W key 2 times (to get to 1. Neutral and 2. 1st gear) then
punch it.  This segment IS a pain in the ass so good luck (!!!) and let us
know if you are successful.

NFS: Porsche question

by Sinj » Sat, 27 Jan 2001 14:26:09

Thanks for the tip but I managed to pull it off finally using rapid tapping of
the regular brake vs. any handbrake.  Once that free up my right hand I could do
the shifting.  Finished the game about 45min later.  Was sorry to see there was
nothing left but Monaco tracks - those were my least favorite but now I have
that 2000 911 in my garage!!

Does anyone know if the replays of races are enhanced for playback.  When
watching the replays it seems to look like I drive a lot better than I feel it
looks when I'm actually racing (if that makes sense).  Just seems it smooths out
my turns, etc....or maybe I really am that good :-)

hum.  Remember you don't have to hold the ebrake down the whole time,
just a tap at the start.  I drive with one hand on the wheel and the right
hand by the shifter and the extra buttons.  If you have paddle shifters you
have both hands on the wheel, but also buttons close to your thumbs.  You
aren't shifting at the start of the maneuver so there shouldn't be any
finger fumbling.  Don't give up yet.
