F1 2002 changing wings during race

Sometimes I loose a wing during a race. All I seem to be able to do is carry
on (with no hope of winning), or pit.

When I pit the race ends: No option to put a new wing on, which is of course
what happens in real life sometimes.

Any mods that will allow a wing change during a race?

When you lose a front wing, the pit guys will replace it.  When you lose a
rear wing, your race is - for all intents and purposes - over; they don't
bother replacing it, as it would take upwards of 3-5 minutes in real life.
By that time, you have no hope of gaining back any ground lost.  There is no
patch for this.  It simply is...
