laser scanned tracks that are accurate to very ***y tiny tolerances
doesn't get yer *** up?  I think just having VIR is enough to justify
that sim.  Getting through the esses and knowing this is dead on accurate
will be Vunderbra!!!

(of course I may be replying to a yawn cuz it doesn't have one of Bernie's
all conquering Eff One cars like that super fast Minardi or the really
cooking Toro Roso or....even better that Orang...uhmm I mean the SUPER
DUPER Aguri.   Yessir....Effen one is THE place for cutting edge.
Or maybe you are one the NExtel only crowd.  Certainly a little ol Late
Model stock car will never thrill like all those big ol Nextel cars gliding
around Daytona for lap after lap after lap.  Yer right..if it ain't Cup
racin' it aint.)

Maybe, but a simple press release doesn't...

Wake me when there's product.

It's all about the cars for me. Life is short.....no point in driving *any*
sim with boring cars just because they were paid to give their permission.
And yes, I want the best of the best, so that's F1.

But if the sim is uber-realistic as people claim to want there's no way
on earth that an amateur on the wrong side of 40 can drive a modern
billion $ F1 car using a 19" monitor and controls that retail for $100
(or even $1000 or $10,000), it would be like practicing for a heart
transplant with milton bradley's Operation game.   Heck, even Michael
Schumacher has problems making them stop and turn to enter the Monaco
pits...; )

So either you want realism or your want F1, but you can't have both....

None of us could even drive a 145 hp Skip Barber car, or a late model
(whatever that is) looking through a 19 in. hole two feet in front of our
heads with $100 controls.

:-)

That's why sim racing isn't really....

I'd venture to bet that most would find driving an F1 car or a Prototype far easier than an sprint car or a stockcar.  With so much of those cars dependent upon electronics (TC, ABS, LC), the driver isn't in need of much throttle control - just steer the dogone thing!

Kinda what makes the GTP mod so fun.  The driver has to tame the beast; not the other way around!

I guess all the buttons, dials, knobs & read-outs on the wheel are just
for the drinks dispensor then...  ;)

I watched a piece on "5th gear" about some UK gazillonaire who'd just
bought an Ex MS Ferari F1 car (2002 2003 vintage?), he actually owned
(ran?) his on ELMS team, after a 1/2 day briefing he managed to stall
it leaving the pits, after another half day he managed to get to within
1 second of the track record FOR THE FERRARI ROAD CAR  ;)   And this is
a guy who owned several ferraris and other race cars...

This inspired me to pull my wheel out of the closet and give GPL and
GTP another go. :)

Much of the site is re-hashed, but the new content makes me very happy,
particularly the (vague) details on the tire and aero models.

The track list is ***ic.  I think Road Atlanta might be the only
essential American natural terrain road course not on there.
