Of course Marcus, to achieve this all you have to do is park the
car on the grass and then use all the views to see the race.

Similarly, if you think it should take your 'team' 30 seconds to
change a nose or 5 minutes to replace a rear wing ... then just
sit in the pits.

If you think 10 second penalty flag should force you to come in for a
10 second pit penalty .... drive into your pit and wait 10 seconds.

If you think the gravel trap should bog the card down as in real-life,
then stop trying to get out and start using the camera views to
watch the rest of the race. If you'd like to have a level of
randomness - through a dice and let a six let you out.

Unhappy that hitting the armco at 80mph shuld damage the car
and make it undrivable ? Well stop driving and watch the race.

Whilst it would be nice for the sim to have all these options.
It's more to get wrong and will make it later.

There are a number of gripes on what this package does and doesn't
do where their are simple actions the 'driver' can take to make
them mirror real life.

Maybe we should create a set of additional 'rules' that we should
all adhere to to make the 'sim' more 'realistic'.

Personally, if I'm driving seriously, I stop driving if I think
I would have been wiped-out ( was pushed into the barrier at
Eau-Rouge while trying a suicidal overtaking move - I considered
myself flown to the hospital ! )

But, if I'm having 'fun' or trying to improve, I take every
advantage the 'sim' has to make up for my poor driving !!

>And has anyone run out of fuel?

Yes. I was practicing I think, and the car just started slowing down.
I only realised the next day. I thought my engine had gone or
something.

>> WISHES:

>> 1. Changeable weather...not just rain or sunny...how about wind,
>> temperature etc.

How about a dark sky, but not raining, just on the verge. Then you
wouldn't know if you needed wet tyres or not - you would have to take
a gamble.

Also a longer replay as in ICR (I don't own ICR(2) but apparently  you
can have VERY long replays)

There was no 107% qualifying rule in F-1 in 1994.

Ultimately, why not put a pit speed limit switch on the keyboard/wheel? and
make the driver responsible. I think that forgetting to poke the switch and
getting a black for pit speed violation would be the most realistic and
probably easiest solution.
Since it already limits you automatically, make that a cheat/driving aid.
In general, the pits in GP2 was aptly named.
Other posts have pointed this out but I'll reiterate:
1. Need a realistic damage control feature, again make the existing one a
driver aid.
2. Major damage should end your race day. Also failures.
3. Minor and moderate damage should incur greater than normal pit times. I
think this one is pretty easy to model, a simple time delay.
4. A delay if you miss the pit, or get your entry angle wrong. Nothing
fancy, just a message, a delay and your car appears at the right location
(representing your crew correcting the mis-alignment)

In general, I think they did a pretty good job. All we need now are about
two-thousand new enhancements. (not sarcastic at all)

Just so. First time I wanted to see what happened. So I restarted the
race, then 3 laps into it got the electrical problem (darndest luck!),
so I did pull over on the grass and retired.

My point is, is that the sim shouldn't have mixed real and unrealistic
situations. Either allow the user to set the options or make real as
it should be. Why bother having a blown engine if it can be fixed.
Can't be too hard to code a "You have been forced to retire" message
and shut the engine off!

If you're leading by 30 seconds with 2 laps to go and the engine lets
fly just before the pits and it's the last race of the season and you
need to win to get the championship, what would you do?

Chris.
