Oops, it seems that I've been playing the game too anxiously and paid too
little attention to the manual.

Yep, it's not too realistic if you are driving as Paul Belmondo. =)

How about the steering wheel turning or the wheels moving during
replays. I would have thought a realistic SIM would have a moving
steering wheel.

Love the game.

If you you read the manual, you'll see it is explained in there.
Remember it's a game, the object is to simulate racing, not sitting in
the stands.

If it was called "Grand Prix 2 - a simulation of the 1994 Pacific
Racing Team"..... well, that would be different. :-)

Maybe an option would be nice for masos like Marko and me!!!??

The FIA allows teams 28 tyres (excluding rain tyres and I am not about
to get into not having rain) during a race weekend.  So how come there
seem to be only four sets available in GP2.  Hopefully, I am missing
something simple and somebody will enlighten me...

As to improvements I really would like to see the following apart from
weather :-)

1.  Loss of time when changing the car setup.  If I haven't got the
setup right from practice then I should loss qualifying time if for
example I fiddle with the gears.

2.  If I write off the car I should not be able to just jump into my
spare car of which there is an unlimited supply.

3.  I would like a warm-up lap.  I think more than anything else this
heightens the anticipation of the start.

4.  DQ if you wear out your plank.

Obviously I am nitpicking but maybe these things are fairly simple to
implement and for me they would add a lot to the game.  I think that my
suggestions be either menu-driven or only available at the Pro level or
above.  My suggestions are not criticims of Microprose and in
particular Geoff Crammond as they have done an excellent job with
balancing realsim and playability.  As my wife was fond of saying when
I was madly following the posts on when GP2 was going to be released,
"Get a life its only a game."  You know I will miss her...

Salut!

Hi all,

thanks to G.C. and MicroProse for this great game but let's get one
thing straight - games released in 1996 and beyond are not complete
without multiplayer (read network) support. Sure the opposition AI is
great but I'm sure you'd all like to compete in a 'real' competition! How
about making 1996 the year of the networked game.

The damage bug really annoys me.  Any crash above 20 mph should envoke
damage.  For that matter the higher the level played the easier it should
be to damage your car.

I crashed at over 100mph ripped a wheel off was able to drive to the
pits and was fixed in under 10 seconds.

This is crap. A major bug!!!!!!

There are seven sets of tyres for the whole race weekend. Four sets of
race tyres (r1, r2, r3 and r4) and three sets of qulifying tyres (0, 0
and 0 just above the other sets in your display). All sets are the same
for a race weekend. You can access the qualifing tyres by stepping on
the throttle...
I would like to be able to change tyres from one side to the other to
have them wear of more evenly...

I would like to see things getting more realistic, depending on the
level you play in. So if your a rookie, yes, you should sit on the
stands and watch if you're outside the 107%... and the four points
mentioned above (especially the spare car thingy) should also be
implemented in higher levels...

Happy racing

Agree about the damage being fixed way to fast and the car's
sensitivity to damage is inconsistent. How can one hit a wall at over
150kph and not sustain any damage in one shunt and then have half the
car fall apart in another?

Damage should be as in ICR2 - none, arcade and realistic (and I mean
realistic!)

Two problems I'm concerned with is the implementation of the
unreliability factors. I think it is great to get engine blows,
elecrtic problems etc, however with this increased reality one gets a
totally unrealistic repair.

I had a major engine blow on lap 6 at Brazil (Ferrari of course)
cruised around a 90kph back to the pit and those super mechanics had
it fixed in under 10 seconds!!!!

Major problems like engine blows etc should be TERMINAL. End of race.

Other ones like loose wheel, throttle problems should have some sort
of "fit it" factor where the pit crew may or may not be able to repair
the problem. And if they do repair it, it should take some
considerable amount of time.

Second problem I can see is entry into the pit on a pit stop. Very
good to have the computer automatically slow you down to 80kph but why
the interminably slow crawl into the actual pit position? Why can one
not drive at the pit speed limit right up to the pit crew (even
limited to 50 or 60 kph would be better that the 20 or 30 it
automatically limits one to now).

Hope these get noticed by Geoff and crew. Great job guys. Excellent
sim that can only get better.

It would be more realistic if, in linkup, you didn't have to ask
permission to alter car setups. I can hardly imagine Damon Hill having
to ask Michael Schumacher to briefly go into suspended-animation in
the middle of a flier while he tweaks his car setup. ;-) And if your
opponent isn't feeling generous, you can be prevented from setting
your car up; very annoying if you've previously made modifications and
made things worse.

Better enforcement of the rules. At Hockenhein, approaching chicane 1,
there was a major crash up ahead with yellow flags. I backed off a
little and was over taken by two cars.

If you feel guilty about it, pull the car over to the side of the track at the
start.

Kind of depends on how much you back off. The rule is along the lines
of "keep your postion". That doesn't mean that you can't overtake
someone who is going _much_ slower (and may have been involved in the
incident, after all). If you look at a real F1 race, the drivers do
_not_ slow down noticably for a yellow flag.

That's not to say that this reflects the situation you encountered.
But it is one possibility.

Personally, I would rather have this than F1GP1 where the other cars
went _really_ slow whenever there was a yellow.

If you don't like this then why don't you just not drive into the pits
? Just stay on the track and wait to be removed.

Same goes for a tire being ripped off. If you think the damage should
prevent you from going on then don't you will be removed from the
track. I know you shouldn't be able to drive to the pits in real life
but just because you can in this game doesn't mean you should and then
complain about it.

Simple solution available;-)  There are 7 sets available, three for
qualifying and four for race.  They are labeled "0 0 0" (qual) and
"r1 r2 r3 r4" (race), selections are made with control device up-down
movement.

<snip>

And you don't even lose the tires you were using during the crash,
even if they get knocked out...  One spare should be allowed, but
the driver would lose some time, maybe 20-30% of qualifying period
length?

This would be great with real starts I descriped in earlier post.
I'd also like to have cool down lap and "finish" the race in parc
ferme or pits.  The "race over" is bit too sudden.

<snip>

Agreed.

Pasi.
