Strange F1 2002 controler problem

I'm having a strange problem with the 2002 demo.

Playing with a simple Sidewinder joystick (at work - my wheel's at
home). Works fine in the default installation with driving aids on,
but that's no game (car just drives itself on a rail).

So I turn the driving aids all off, and now it's like I can only get
30% throttle. With automatic shifting it never gets out of 1st. With
manual shifting I can shift up, but throttle is so low the car doesn't
go

Checked in Windows and the controller is configured and working fine.
And it appears to be working fine according to the interface in the
demo's controller config (I can push the throttle slider to the
limit).

Any ideas?

Could it be you have the pit road speed limit enabled? If the same key
works for 2002, the L key will disable that.

That was it. Thanks Tim!

Pretty impressive driving physics in this game. Generally I find F1
sims as boring as hell, but I might just pick this one up! ;-)
