GTR Radeon FSAA problem fix?

by Dale Gree » Thu, 06 Feb 2003 09:01:00

Grabbed the GTR 1.2 update last night in hope that this was solved... nope.

If I use FSAA I can't see the in-game "pit" menus.  That is, after the track
loads the screen won't change yet I can click on non-visible buttons.  This
requires a bit of guesswork to enter the car setup menu...

Is there a workaround for this with Radeon (7500) cards?  I'd love to use 2x
FSAA because the sim looks so much better.

Hi Dale,

How is GTR 2002 even playable with FSAA on that card?  I get 40-60 fps
racing without FSAA using an AMD 1600/GF4 Ti 4400, cannot imagine the 7500
comes close to this performance.  I thought the ATI 9700 Pro was the only
candidate for viable FSAA in this simulation.

When hotlapping I'll get about 37-47fps w/o FSAA (PIII933, 1024x768x32-bit).
With a couple of cars on the track around me the rate drops to 35fps.

2xFSAA is barely acceptable for hotlapping, 4xFSAA is useless.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider turning on AA unless I was getting
100+fps all the time.  Frame rate is critical to fully appreciating the
awesome physics model in this game.

I get the exact same thing. I just turn off FSAA.

Thing is, I now get the same problem with Nascar 2003 after selecting a car
in Players and then hitting done to return to the main menu. Funny thing is,
I am using OpenGL. When I switch to D3D, the problem goes away but the
performance isn't as good.

I have Radeon 8500 64MB/Catalyst 3.0a/DX9.

Everything else (including Nascar 2002 in OpenGL) works great. It must be a
bug with OpenGL and Nascar 2003.
