need help buying new FF wheel

by MN-mal » Fri, 28 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I'm tossing around the idea of replacing by T2 wheel with a new one. Things
I like about my t2 are simple, the area below the desktop is very small as I
have a keyboard shelf there. The t2 fits there and I can leave it mounted
all the time. 2nd I like the shift stick, I drive one handed at the 12
position and not sure if I could get use to 2 handed with paddles. I'm not
very concerned about price($300 or under I guess) but I'm not sure what to
look for in a ff wheel. I tried one many years ago and it was junk so the
idea left my mind till now.
Are there places to review different wheels or does anyone have any
suggestions what wheel might meet my needs. I am aware of the separate
shifter but I understand compatibility is limited and that's not a good
thing.
Thanks in advance
Joel

Compatibility is not limited with the Act Labs RS Shifter. It works as a
regular shifter with any game. But it will also work as a gated shifter in
many games, meaning that you shift in a pattern as you do in a real car. But
the Shifter is still fun to use in regular mode.
Like you, I always drove with one hand on the wheel, near 12 o'clock, and
the other on the shifter. I did this with my CH exl500 wheel and with the
Andretti wheel. When I first got the Force RS and RS Shifter, I hated the
shifter. It feels different than anything else. After about a week of using
it, I thought it was okay after all, and now I just can't get enough of it.
It actually feels a lot like a real shifter. I also fitted one to my LWFF
wheel so it plugs in, and I may try putting it on my Ferrari wheel as well,
even though the Ferrari wheel has a stick shifter already. The shifter is
just plain fun to use. So, now I drive with my left hand close to the top of
the wheel, and my right hand at about 9 o'clock. It was easy to get used to.
As I'm driving near redline, I hover my hand over the shifter and wait
impatiently for my next opportunity to hit the next gear.
