GPL Spec Racing is really fun

GPL Spec Racing is really fun

I just finished racing in a couple of all Coventry races hosted by Bob
Jiantonio (great host BTW) and I've never had so much fun racing online GPL.
The grid and racing was very close.  It may have been due to everyone having
equally modest horsepower in a chassis that is relatively easy to drive.

Anyway, it was great fun and worth trying.

Yeah Brian, spec racing like that is a lot of fun and evens out the
horsepower disparity of the different Marques, so it boils down to who
is the better driver, not how fast his/her Marque is..
We have a Novice Trainer segment in our league as well as the GP cars
and the racing in the NT cars is excellent and a lot closer than the GP
cars could ever be, or ever hope to be..
Anyone who hasn't tried racing like this in spec cars or the NT cars,
do not know what they are missing out on..
Cheers,
Ron

I was there too! It was the very best and Bob Jiantonio's connection is
fantastic as well. The racing was very tight with a big field with loads of
overtaking manoeuvres - I've got the second Monza race saved if anyone wants it
- mail me.
Let's do it again sometime.
Cheers,
Paul

Are you racing F3 (Novice Trainer) or F2's (Advanced Trainer)? We have a
league racing F2's which is working out well. It turns out that, according
to Papy, the engine modeling is the same for all cars in the lower classes
(i.e., all F2's have the "same engine" and all F3's are the same). This
boils it down to chassis differences, but so far in our racing the marques
are very close. F3 might also be fun, but I'm afraid that it is really just
too slow even for me on the longer tracks.

Hi, I was there too and agree, it was amazingly close racing :-)
I feel it may be worth using VROC room 2 (which is usually empty) as a room
for specific chassis races. That way any body not interested would be able
to stay in room 1, and other's would know where to find the restricted
chassis races, maybe have the car types allowed shown in the comments under
VROC setup.

Any comments welcome :-)

GPL Spec Racing is really fun

The BJ spec races were in Grand Prix coop...er coventrys.  I had the
pleasure of competing in them as well, thanks Bob!  Some of the most
enjoyable online racing I have done, with a different set of priorities, ie
equal straight line speed, braking and cornering all lead to emphasis on
driving and racecraft, rather than my usual "catch the lotii here oz they
beat me there" when racing my Brabham.

The races were also exceptionally clean and sporting, my theory being that
as people were chucked into the spec car, they took the racing rather less
seriously.  I know I did!

Ben...who doesn't take his racing seriously, just more seriously than when
put in a cooper.

Hi Ian,
Good idea - we could just do it "unofficially". One day, I'll beat you my friend
especially with those setups you sent,
Thanks,
Paul
