Steering - Wheels Force vs. No-Force

by Darrin Luca » Mon, 03 Apr 2000 05:00:00

I have just ordered my new Dell computer.  700 Mhz Intel Pentium III with
256 megs of ram...  Here's the question:  Will force feedback slow down my
system significantly or should I get a non FF wheel to keep the game's speed
up?

What is the best F1 type wheel on the market?

Which game should I buy?

thanks!

That big ol' boy ought to be able to handle just about anything! Get a
Sidewinder! (personal preference, here..)

Even on my K6 2/350 with 64 Megs my Act-Labs USB force wheel doesn't slow
the machine.

If you want the best game (err sim) get gpl.  If you want something
ezier, get Nascar 3.  Most populat ff wheel is logitech.  MS ff wheel
is cpu hog but your 700 bad boy should handle it.  I luv my tsw.

Hi!

I have not either seen any performance drops using my serial Act-Labs wheel
plugged into my P2 266 with 64 MB.

I built my own custom no FF wheel, all metal construction, bearings on the
shafts, paddle shifter, adjustable spring tension and it works great. I had to
buy a Logitech FF (USB port) wheel to try FF for myself and now its  all I use.
I did however replace the LWFF plastic bushings with steel ball bearings(not
easy to do)  and I use my own custom pedals. I dont notice much fps drop if any
in most games with my PII 350.

What type of racing games you like?
Grand Prix Legends is the most realistic, but with older F1 car (67) and takes a
lot of practice to make a fast lap without crashing or spinning.
F1 2000 by EA is with the latest F1 cars and tracks. Some like it, some dont. I
think its fun.
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed seems to be getting good reviews.
