32MB RAM and NASCAR 2

Drivers:

1).     If you have 32MB of ram in your sytem

2).     and if you have a rendition based graphics card

3).     NASCAR 2 will switch the graphics output from
4 to 8 bit graphics mode.

4).     What does this mean..  Since the NASCAR 2
is multiplying graphics output by X FOLD
in 8 bit vs 4 bit mode..  You can

EXPECT SERIOUS SLOW DOWN IN FRAME RATES
                and DRIVEABILITY OF GAME.  Unfortunately
this does affect the CONTROLS code
that is working within you NASCAR 2 game..

ITS A NASCAR 2 BUG... Not a Rendition Bug..
Maybe we can fix it in the PATCH ...

                HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!!!!

        THE FIX:

You can use a 16MB RAMDRIVE or 16MB SMARTDRIVE

You now have no replay file LENGTH!!!

PENTIUM PRO II 1500MHZ should work as well... 1999

PS.     I'm not sure that if you have a 32MB system and
some other graphics card that NASCAR 2 code
        doesnt mess up your CONTROLS!!!!

Interesting. I have 32MB, Intergraph Reactor, and run N2 through Win95
with no problems what so ever.

The RendDMA version of N2 (don't know about nonDMA versions)
automatically switches to 4 bit textures if you have less than 24MB of ram.
On my system, when I run with 16MB of ram as opposed to my normal 64MB,
I pick up a few frames per second with an acceptable reduction in image
quality.

It sure would be nice to have a command line switch to disable the 8 bit
textures even when you do have 24MB of ram or more. It normally bothers me
when people say to programmers "How hard can it be?" but I'll make an
execption in my case<G>. The logic is already there to switch between 4 and
8 bit. It would just have to be associated with a command line argument.
Then again, if there is a patch on the way that will dramatically increase
RendDMA performance using 8 bit textures then a switch won't be needed.

It's something we are aware of, and it will likely get changed. I'm
not terribly sure that I'd call it a "bug..."

Heck, All I have is a P200 with 64 ram and a stealth 3d 4Mg card. It
occasionaly blows the return to windows95 but I can live with GASP,
DOS

Just M.H.O.

P.S. Love those motorhomes :)

Jim,

I am with you 100% on this one. It certainly is *NOT* a bug
of any type. It is most certainly a "FEATURE" of a very
questionable nature. hehe.

Greg

P.S. The normal SVGA N2 looks just fine on my P5-133. What extra
"stuff" will 3D get you? I had heard that ICR2 implemented 3D much
better than N2. I wonder if the N2 3D is really any better than the
SVGA 2D at max detail (which is what I run). I ask because if I were
going to get a 3D card today it would probably be a Rendition. It seems
to have the most current & future support. Thanks.
