Hi all!

Can anybody help?

My Neighbor and i have the same prob:

We both installed N2002 under XP Professional and we both get worse
framerates. ~ 25-30 fps being alone on track.
Newest detonator drivers (tried many), half of the N02 graphic
features turned off (like anisotropic filtering), nothing helped.
Sidenote: We both have troubles with our wheels. I have a T2 and here
the 3rd axis have a worse behavior. My neighbor have a MS FF Wheel and
after he recalibrates his wheel he get slightly better framerates.

And now the best: Under Win98 (or WinMe) the games rocks with
framerates up to 60 fps/sec. With any graphic feature turned ON!

Details System 1:

Motherboard ASUS A7V (KT 133A)

GF2 GTS 32  MB DDR with Detonator 27.xx
Soundcard Soundblaster live player 5.1 (but hey, there are NO troubles
with the sound!) where the T2 is connected.
256 MB SDRAM (Infineon) 133 Mhz

Details System 2:
Motherboard ASUS A7V (KT 133)
GF3 Elsa with 64 MB SDRAM
Soundcard terratec 512i

256 MB SDRAM 133 Mhz

What "extra" services do you have running on XP?  There's a lot of junk that
isn't required to be running on a *** machine (like the server service
for example).

Believe it or not, but try reducing the hardware acceleration on your sound card.  Get rid of eye candy, like themes, if you're running any while attempting to play the game.  On the latter, you can access that by right-clicking on the link you're using to launch the game, select Properties and on the Compatibility tab, put a check mark in "Disable visual themes."  This will only disable them while you're in the game.  Also check your friendly local VIA web site for downloads of the latest drivers.

Do you have a reason for running XP?  People have indicated the game
will run equally well under both OS's with proper tweaking, but
really, unless you need XP for some reason I'd stick with 98/98SE.

Hi Wolfgang,

WinXP with all the additional administrational tasks (some of the services
but mainly the permanent 'sandboxing' of applications) needs more CPU time
than Win98. N2002 with its complex physics also needs quite a bit.

With a 1.2GHz Athlon, I could imagine that this can lead to the effect you
describe.

Turn off V-sync. On WinXP, it works greater than on Win9X.
I get almost the same fps now.
