I haven't seen any of you guys doing LFS on-line lately... so haven't had a
good race in a few days. The others I see there don't know how to drive. Has
the novelty worn off?

Steve.

The Novelty definitely hasn't worn off,, I haven't seen the Ras server on
the
list lately. I tried it direct and couldn't get in, maybe too full.
Look for my Server too:

I wasn't able to do anything with LFS over the weekend. I had my server up
for a bit last night and had some races with Ed W., George S., and a few
others though. I'll run it again at 8 pm EST tonight.

I don't play online, but offline the game's got problems. If a car hits me
in the rear, I spin around 1-3 times (even below 40 mph). If I hit a car in
the rear nothing happens; they don't spin out of control. It's almost
impossible to survive in traffic without crashing. Besides the unrealistic
physics, the lack of tracks and cars make the game boring after only a few
days. The car you get at 50 points isn't any faster than the first car. I
doubt I'll ever even make it to 200 points.

First, I have a question.  What do you know offhand that is unrealistic about
the physics?  Just curious.  :)

Also, why do you not race online?  LFS was MEANT for online play with its
excellent code.  AI racing offline is just an added bonus.

BTW, tip for getting 200 points quickly:  race the AI on pro, set it up so you
start from pole, do a 5 lap or so race, and win it with ease (if you're any
good at driving, that is... ;)  Just remember, slow in = fast out)

Or you can just cheat and change the selected car in the cfg.txt file  :)

Change the correct line to:
Selected Car XR GT TURBO

Oh, and expect more cars and tracks later.  This is just an early demo.

I said why the physics aren't realistic.

Or just do it the fun way and win some races on a FWD
only server.  This game would not have the same appeal
without the multiplayer aspect.  Racing from Australia
with about 350-450ms pings to most US and Euro servers
I still get clean connections with very little warp.

Have been killed once by the ghost lag car ;) but then
I haven't had to tweak a core.ini file to race online -
it just worked out of the zip, connected to servers
and started racing.

Racing multiplayer, my point tally has jumped to over
1000 points very quickly.  Some of the better drivers
here will have huge point scores.

re the physics - I get the feeling there are a couple
of "tweaked" effects in the beta to workaround some
coding that is still happening.  Specifically the way
the RWD turbo gets huge amounts of oversteer drift
at relatively low speeds and low amounts of throttle -
it doesn't feel real, I feel like I'm waiting for the
place where the oversteer kicks in instead of feeding
the power in to keep the slip minimised.  The idea of
anything more powerful than a turbo 4 is starting to
scare me..  IMHO the turbo engine doesn't work like
a turbo engine either.  I'm ignoring obvious answers
like - race cam, modified race car etc, a turbo 4
should be able to produce peak boost in any gear, not
just 3rd.  Engine rpm and load are going to produce
your boost, not the car speed or gear.  That could
change if you were running a very large heavy turbo
core but I don't think by much.  Thats just my 2c on
the physics that i notice.

I would love to see a 4WD model in the game for
comparison.  I hope they have some 4wd turbos in the
full release.

With plenty of development time left, and the PC
version of Race Driver still vapourware I think this
game has the most potential of any on the horizon.
(unless someone makes a good CART sim !!!)

Nope.  That doesn't work.  I tried it, and it reverted me right back to the points
that I already had accumulated.
