Hola,

I've had bad luck with getting Nascar 4 to work with my LinkSys
router, I don't even mind setting my workstation up as a DMZHost for
online racing (although all other games can be made to work, except
N4).

Here is my problem, when connecting to Multiplayer I can see the
online servers at Sierra.com, I get an MLAT response, I do not get a
ping response and cannot join any servers for racing. Our League has a
dedicated server using IP and it's not listed, I cannot join it
either.

v1.40.1, I have three computers with Static IP configured. One of the
machines is a GPL Dedicated Server and it works just as it is supposed
to work.

Is this a forwarding issue?  Or an *.ini issue, I've looked and the
*.ini file but I'm not sure what to change.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for you help.

I have connected to and hosted races through a Linksys router without using
DMZ with no problems at all.
For hosting you need to forward some ports but that's it.  Try making
yourself pingable in the router setup, although this shouldn't be needed.

The one thing that jumps out at me compared to my setup is the fact you said
your 3 computers have static IP addressess. I have a simular setup but I'm
using the Router as  DHCP for my local lan ip addresses. I'm not 100% sure
but it seems like I read somewhere if you had static IP addresses you had to
have an IP from your ISP for each machine. Now don't hold me to that, but
its something for you to check into. I know that there was a reason I went
with DHCP, but I can't  remember exactly what. I can connect to a N4 server
either IP or thru WON.net with no problems, but I have not tried hosting to
know if that works or not.

I have run both DHCP and static IPs on each PC with no issues.

Same here.. there is obviously something else wrong/wierd with his system
other than N4

AC, in the server.txt file in your N4 folder you'll find info about hosting
behind a router, and you should forward ports 32766 thru 32809 to allow up
to 42 users to connect.

Hola,

According to the LinkSys documentation, in order for Port Forwarding
to work, you need Static internal IP addresses.

Of course, I believe everything I read...

From Microsoft of course ;-)

So, the GPL machine that's hosting is also behind the same router?  If
so, I assume you're forwarding the default GPL port range to that
machine's IP address?  If you haven't noticed, the default GPL and N4
port ranges are overlapped (in fact they are identical, except N4 has a
higher range since it allows up to 42 client connections).  As a result,
if you're forwarding the default range to your GPL server, the N4
clients running on the other machines will not be able to get ping
responses or connect to any servers as all of the return the packets
will be forwarded to the GPL machine.  Assuming this is what's going on,
to get around it you'll simply need to configure one or the other game
to use a different (and non-overlapping) port range, which can be done
by specifying a non-standard net_server_port in the game's CORE.INI

I have same problem with almost the same exact setup.

It has to be the patch.  I was joining, pinging and even hosting races
behind my router before the latest (greatest?) patch.

I have received no response from Papy.

Hey AC, we should keep in touch over this problem.  E-mail me.

Thanks for your help,
Rodney

According to AC the answer Eric had given fixed the problem. Which is cool.
I miss racing against AC, as I can almost always beat him. :)

Hey schooner  :-)

'CrashMan' here...

I have a linky and host and race with no problems.  When I host I forward
the ports 35700->35750 to my internal server (different machine than my race
box)  and can race on that machine and outside machines with no troubles.
You have to do a little change to the server launch string and tell the guys
they have to connect to a different port but it's not going to kill anyone.

Performance is better than when I had the 'server' connected directly and
used 'ICS' for the internal connections.

doesn't matter, as the Linksys throws class C addresses that are
"private" non-internet routable.  The Linksys uses NAT (network
address translation) to route the packets.

If his gateway is 192.168.1.1 and he put his DNS server addresses in
his TCP-IP settings, he should be good to go.   That's for all his
internet needs on those systems though, not just N4 via multiplayer.
Perhaps he didn't get the connection portion working properly in N4
itself... that can be a bit tricky sometimes for folks.

Fixed problem.

I deleted all of my forwarding info on my router.  Saved changes.
This allowed me to join and ping races.  I then put the forwarding
info back in and saved.  I could race and host.

Hope this helps someone else.  (Seems sketchy that it worked, but it
did).
