Nascar BUG, ARGH!!

by Matthew Birger Patri Knuts » Sat, 13 Jan 1996 04:00:00

I finally bought a track pack, and installed it promptly. A readme file told
me that the game now was updated to version 1.97. O.K - great improvements -
BUT - 99% of the times I go to the garage (in practice, testing or
Qualifying), the game crashes when I want to resume. When I click on "done"
a whole lot of nonsense comes up on my screen, ending in something like "crash
address unrelocated (some numbers) Nascar<trackname<objs."
This does, however, happen most frequently on the road courses. I have no idea
about the crash address, since most of the times I enter the pit before going
to the garage (I am a racer in real life too). I have tried to stop on the
track, jumping straight into the garage from 170 MPH etc...
Can I try to install the track pack again? Why didn`t this happen before? Is
it the end of the world???? Pleeeease! I`m getting tired of hearing Ned Jarett
everytime I want to change setups!!!

Help me!!

The track pack will upgrade Nascar to version 1.2.  There is a known garage
bug in the game that occurs pretty much as you described it.  Two things you
can do eliminate/lessen these occurances:

1.  Boot with a boot disk made from the Nascar Setup menu.

2.  Delete the entire Nascar directory, defrag your HD with the
DEFRAG C: /F    command.  Then reinstall both the game and the TP.

I hope this helps.

I cannot answer your problems but I can add to the clues.   This used
to happend all the time for me with ICR1 until Mike Gunthorp (Papryus)
wrote back to me to tell me that ICR1 did not like EMM386.   Bingo
most of the problems went away.   The problem you mentioned happens to
me now fairly regularly in NASCAR and I have noticed it most when I go
from replay to garage.

Most annoying.

Craig.
