N3 advice please

by Ian Greenwoo » Thu, 18 Nov 1999 04:00:00

Hello

I have just bought N3 and regard it as  significant advance over N2 in
most respects.

However, it does NOT like my Herc Thriller AGP card.

128MB of RAM, would adding either a Voodoo 1 or 2 enable me to run N3
graphics flat out (as I want) , or do I need to go the whole hog and
buy a V3 3000.

Thanks

It depends on what you mean by "Flat Out" graphics.  I can run with all
goodies turned on at 1024x768, and the frame rate is in the mid 20's, but
I'm using 2 Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode.

Before I got my 2nd Voodoo2 card (recently), I was able to run at 800x600
with about the same frame rate, as I recall.

Hope this helps you out....

Ian,

If you can afford the V3 3000,then get it. I upgraded from a Voodoo2 to
the Voodoo3 3000,and the difference is like night and day.

Ian,

A Voodoo2 would be a great way for you to keep your Thriller yet attain
great performance in N3.  A V2 is quite cheap right now, too.  Best Buy
and CompUSA both have them for $79 minus a $30 rebate ($49 total).  I

N3, GPL, and NL.  I run all graphics at 800 x 600 and can run 1024 x 780
with slight frame rate degradation at the start of a race.  My roommate
with a Voodoo3 3500 gets no better performance than my V2 in these
particular games on a comparable system.  I like having my Stealth II
S220 for Rendition games like SODA and CART (ICR2).  Best of both worlds
with the V2.

Hope that helps--
