Requirements for GPL?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what are the minimum requirements for Grand Prix
Legends?

I have a P-MMX at 200 MHz, 64 Mb RAM and a Matrox Mystique.  Is that
already too old?

Regards,
Eric

Meaningless.  If someone wants to do everyone (who hasn't already bought
GPL) a favour, copy the more honest explanation of hardware requirements
from Steve Smith's Strategy Guide (included in the box with the game).

Marc.

Well, can someone tell me what he says exactly?  I suppose the minimum
suggested in the readme file is too low?

Thanks!

Here's my system setup:

Pentium 200mmx
96 RAM
3dfx (voodoo I)
8x CD
Matrox Mystique 220 (8 RAM).

With most of the graphics turned on, the minimum mirror stuff, etc., I'm
getting 25-30 fps in training and slightly lower
with 5 AI racers.

Not too bad.  Quite tolerable in fact.

Slightly lower?  What we need to know is what is your frame rate with a full
field of cars.  25-30 fps is great for training mode.  What are you at
sitting in the pits with a full field?

You need at least a Voodoo 1 video card or a Rendition card like the
Hercules Thriller 8mb.  Your Mystique will only run in software mode(Way to
slow!).
I am running a P166 , (no L2 cache),80mb, M3D II 12mb and at Monza with Most
detail turned off( no crowd or objects off the road,no driver arms or car
texture, only skid marks for car effects) at 800x600res., racing with 5 cars
I get from about 7 to 16 fps. If it wasn't such a good game I wouldn't
suggest trying to run it this slow but if you like racing sims then its well
worth it. Its even worth buying a new computer.
Go here for more info on hardware for GPL.

I think for your system the rendition card would be best.

You dont seem to be able to understand what minimum requirements mean.
It does NOT mean 30fps full field full detail...it means being able to
run the sim at a playable level of FPS with all details turned down.

Besides this sim is such a joy to just hotlap in that anyone with at
least a 133 Voodoo 1 card should buy it to see brilliance in action.

You don't seem to understand that graphical details are not the issue...they
have very little effect if you have a top-notch video card.  A racing game
means racing, not just hot-lapping.  GPL is useless for racing without some
serious hardware.  Some people may still want it for just driving (I would
be one of those), but lets not fool people into thinking they will be able
to enjoy (or even manage) a "normal" race.

Marc.

Marc,

You are right on this account-- with my p200mmx, voodoo I, 96 RAM running
with a full field of 19 racers just doesn't cut it.  I can do tolerably well
with 7-10 racers.  I'm satisfied with that.

But then again I'm more interseted in multiplayer racing.  I will probably
end up racing more online than I will be offline.  Offline I will just hot
lap in order to get better and be able to compete with online, human
opponents.  That to me is where the fun is.

Regarding fps and the like, I've seen others with the same system as I have,
with a little less RAM, say that they are getting 36fps hot lapping and
30fps with a full field.  I can't believe that this is really true.  I've
tried to tweak this and tweak that and cannot get over 18-20fps at start
with a field of 10.  This is at 640x480 with most options off.

Anyway, great game, great fun.

your memory is probably not being cached over 64mb.
