CPR Patch Man!!

by Mikes Design » Fri, 09 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Well I wasn't going to post yet as I only just got the patch last night but
as Im seeing  a bunch I will say what Ive seen so far.
I am on a Dell 233MMX PII with 32 MB Sdram. My Video card is the STB
Velocity 4MB with AGP. If I go with software acceleration option w/ texture
no hills or sky I am getting 30-33 fps average and it looks great!! If I
turn on hills and sky I am at 20-25 fps and still looking good. BTW replays
are even better than before crispy more details seems and sound! Now dig
this if I use D3D acceleration I am getting 50+ fps no hills or sky 44fps
with hills and sky. This is with textures and smoothing on. Unfortunately
there is still some flashing in D3D mode but it seems random as it clears
now and then. Funny but I would be totally happy ( and I am actually) with
just the software acceleration at 30fps till I saw the 50 fps with D3D WOW
I WANT IT hehehe.
It is important to note this- at first I couldn't run the D3D version at
all using my Alpha2 Quake Nividia drivers, but as luck would have it I went
to STB.com and they had just posted new drivers and a cool utility for STB
Riva cards. Then when I tried D3D I was running albeit with that flashing
at 50fps. As far as things like auto control in pits its fixed by if you
exceed 60Mph rev limiter kicks in which I think is a cool way to do it as
you must be careful to keep an eye on your in Pits speed. I will pass on
more info after I do more testing but I was so stoked by this fps I had to
pass it along I am getting 32 more MB of Ram tomorrow and will see if this
makes a difference. Actually I was buying more Ram to help F1rs as I still
am getting some chop and would like to see it smoothed out. Aloha, Mike

CPR Patch Man!!

I am running a Cyrix 233 PRMX with 64 meg of EDO Ram and I have and Intense 3D from
Intergraph.  I still get some flashing.  It doesn't matter if I run with no detail
or more detail.  I have tried over clocking the Voodoo rush chip and that doesn't
help or hurt the flashing it only helps the frame rate.

I guess one day MS will get a patch for the patch that may work correctly.  As long
as the justice dept. doesn't tell them to do it!

The flashing is identical to in Tomb Raider II. Now in the graphic options in
TR2 you have a choice to turn on the triple buffering. This fixed the flashing.
We need that option in CPR. I tried using the set sst96_triple_force=1 in
autoexec.bat but that din't fix it unless i'm doing it wrong.
