From what I can see from 1967 race reports at this website :

They formed a mini-grid a couple of hundred feet before the grid.. that's
where they would do all the pre-race preparation. After I would think they
don't do a full lap but just coast to their designed start place on the
grid.

Could you imagine a full warm-up lap at the 'Ring ? ;-)

etc.  Didn't they do this in '67?

I find that I'm fighting my cold tires at the beginning of a race in GPL
when it seems like the AI is sticking to the track pretty well.

I have not checked yet, but if like other Papy sims, you would have pre heated tyres
anyway. Once again, if like other Papy sims, the AI don't seem to suffer from tyre heatup
slowness - they just get faster as their fuel load lightens.
