Anyway, I've read there is a hex edit that allows for the printed read outs
at the bottom of the frame with the in-car view. Does any one know how to
do this? Does this effect the on board gauges? Is this considered cheating
in any way?

information messages in the***pit view <<
Dont know about others, but I dont consider it cheating, because then all
F10 drivers would be cheating.

Ok guys. First of all - this is not the way which show your lap times or
sector times, it's just show you the status line, same as you have in the
F10 mode.
I'm not an author of this method, an author is my friend Denis Fedorov and
you should thank him for it.
This is not util at all, it's just a small hex-fix. To have this mode you
should open your GPL.exe file in any HEX-editor and change just 2 bytes as
it shown below:
OFFSET:
00016A15: change 74 to B0
00016A16: change 2F to 04
!!!DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR GPL.EXE FIRST!!!
This way works fine with GPL v1.2.0.2.
It works for me with the Gplshift util, BW-patch and carsound patch
installed without any problems.
